The Ups and Downs and Rule Britannia

Hello All

Having followed the rough tutorial in the T2006 manual from the disk, I'm about to embark on my first proper piece of route designing. That's not to say that I don't need the manual any more! In fact I've just realised that I don't even know how to make hillsides do what I want them to in terms of...erm... gradients? But all will doubtless come as I hit the books again. (and again..and again..)

I have a saved "session" which is purely experiments and nothing else. Can I make a train stop at a station. How do I get it to follow speed limits. Setting priorities and that kind of thing and it's been very helpful and altogether a great way of checking things out I want to put in my layout.

But I've also found the list of "objects" so cumbersome to deal with, at least with no prior experience as to what exactly is in it, that I've found it beneficial to set aside a board for putting one of everything down on, so that I can physically see what I am dealing with.

So this is really like stepping back into childhood again! Not only am I back to playing wit my trainsets, but I am also laying all my toys out across the carpet again! I only need for my mum to visit so she can shout at me and the memory will be complete!

Anyway enough reminiscing.. I wanted to ask you about the Download Station.

I haven't activated my free month yet and I wanted to make the most out of it when I do. I wondered if there was much in the way of UK assetts in there? Locos, scenery, carriages, more sheepdogs, anything really and also how easy is it to use because the brief look I had left it seeming a bit complicated.

There are thousands of assets that fit in with UK routes :D
There are so many "toys" you will need to expand your "carpet" to cover the whole street, not just your room. :hehe:
But also check out the foreign made stuff, as a lot of it is very usable even though you are only modelling this country.

Welcome to Trainz and I hope you enjoy your new addiction.

you can still use the DLS while not having your FCT active. just click the link above and wander around. I will give you this one warning: once you've used an FCT you won't want to go back.

Thanks for the quick replies, I'll start that free trial going and have a wander around. :) I've no doubt that a FCT is a whole lot better than doing without, but the last thing I need at the moment is yet another regular payment going out.

I've lived a long time without the FCT, and so far I've done alright. It just makes the downloads faster, but I just start the downloading and go do other chores until it finishes.
As for grades, I set the track height then go into the terrain menu and set the circle to max and adjust the sensitivity so the terrain lifts at the speed I want and make big passes over the boards until it reaches the bottom of the track, then add hills around it until I like the looks of it. The smooth track button finishes the ground off and I'm ready to texture.
