The death of MRL units "sad day in america"

The railroad does not care.

Was that too brash?

Okay, how about this:
GE --> BRAND NEW!!! FUEL EFFICIANTE!!! WHOWAHOIA!!! GOVERNMENT HAPPY! 4,400 HP! WHOOO!

Good 'ol EMD --> OLD FART!!! NOT FUEL EFFICIANTE!!! UGEHEHE!!! GOVERNMENT DISAPPOINTED! YAARRRRGGG! (half-life reference)

That's how the railroad sees it. I think.
Correction: Sad day for MRL fans.

Sorry to hear.

Cheers,
Joshua

Indeed. If the OP was running a business, struggling to stay afloat in the current economic climate and a means of reducing costs by introducing newer, more efficient equipment presented itself, I'm sure he would take it!

We all lament the passing of older more interesting railway equipment, here in the UK a gricer's (foamer in US terms) dream was the old loco hauled trains in rural areas, Type 2 or Type 3 loco hauling 5 or 6 old steam heat coaches. The Sprinter DMU's which replaced these in the 1980's/1990's may be soul-less boxes, but they convey the passengers from A to B in the most economic way which is what the railway is all about.

If things didn't move on, we'd still be hauling trains with clones of Stephenson's Rocket!

Don't we all lament the passage of time in one way or another? The familiar goes and leaves us stranded with the new, and no amount of logic provides us the comfort we seek...:(

Eloquently stated Ed.

Regretfully it is a byproduct of “progress”, something I’m not always a fan of, however without it we would still be walking from point “A” to point “B”, carrying a club and have a life expectancy of 23 years.

I agree with Euphod but jkinzel is right and so is sanafebuff. But I am sad to see them go, Ive seen them all of my life. Its not like its a massacre they still have some other locos such as SD40-2s so there's still some left.
