The Auran Community, Why you are a part of it.

We all love Trainz. So I came up with this great idea, [well depends on what you think!] to make a thread devoted to everyone on these forums, whether you're on almost everyday like myself, or just visit now and then, share with everyone what you like about the community, your friends, your threads, your favorite moment on the forums, or heck, maybe even a picture of yourself. Why is it that some of us are absolutly hooked on Trainz? There are so many extras that make Trainz so great, The Download Station, all of our third party sites, Trainz Magazine, the forums itself. The list goes on. So what is it you like so much about the forums? Share some of your content.
Cheers,
Illinois Central
**I also ask that the moderator delete any negative comments direct towards, Auran, other members or myself. Thank You**

This is not a negative reply, but alot of what you are suggesting has already been covered in the forums. Example you suggest photos of trainzers the thread "Putting a face to a name " comes to mind.

Truth

First off, you are getting several rude comment for spelling, which is probably unintentional. I often see that I missed a key or mixed up the letters, so don't let them get ya down! Really, who are they to judge? Remember, the only stupid question is the one that is not asked!
My first train ride was the last run of the Portland Rose, which I did not know was to be decommissioned and tossed the ticket. I was too young to know that most good things will in a day be gone, so as I love steam trains and lost my "N" gage layout in the house fire, I found Trainz as a quick-fix, even it is still not really as good as the real thing. I fabricated many of my "N" cars, and now I enjoy seeing the assets I make for Trainz being used.
Although sometime the "Narrow Minds" tend to make me look for something new at times, I enjoy sharing with train lovers around the world also!

I became par[t] of the Trainz community when I could no longer work with my N-gauge layout. I have some neurological problems (early Parkinson's or an atypical form of it), and I had trouble handling the small parts. I spent more time picking things up off the floor than running the trains. I also could no longer paint the models or put them together without great difficulty.

I initially came from the MSTS world because Trainz 1.0 wouldn't run on my system. I had been following the development of Trainz right from the beginning, but I couldn't run it. Eventually I updated my system at the same time TRS2004 came out and I was a happy person once again.

I've built my "layout" as it would have been in the real world. It's a fictional route, but it's based on the area where I live. Through a combination of merging just the right routes, with my own building, my route is now over 90 miles long and growing. I've blended textures and objects so there is very little difference between the merged routes and my own. In the process, I've also learned some great texturing and terrain techniques from these people as well.

Since I've joined the community, I've not built much content, only one item for that matter, but I've tried to help in other ways by making use of my technical background with PC or system problems. In addition with my experience in Surveyor, I've been able to make suggestions on how to do things.

To me Trainz is like a giant model railroad because there are some many things for everyone to enjoy. There is the content creation where people can make new models. There are the kitbashers who can modify (reskin) objects, which I've done for a couple of items already. There are also the script writers, which are like the people who enjoy wiring, and there are those who enjoy Surveyor like myself. In Surveyor, I can build the world that I want and escape from everything that bothers me.

You just hit a point I have thought about for a while that would involve everyone. I was in a club for a time before I left the states, and the format use was called modules where three tracks, (two main line and one siding) were connected togeather and could be in any order, and from any builder since the location of the track at ends of the module were all set as designated points. If I ever build again, I will use this idea on a smaller scale so I can take the modules with me when I move. When I was in Wyoming, I built an 8x8 that took the whole room. When I had to go back to care for the Ranch, Murphy showed up and wouldn't ya know, had to cut across both plywood boards because of the way my track and mountains laid, (poor planning). Even had to take the window out to get the 4x8 pieces outside. Then I set the two boards facing each other, hill to valley, and built sideboards around them for transport. Anyway, my idea is to have everyong use set entrance/exit points on the end baseboards so that everyone could set anyone's layouts togeather in any order to make a whole world.
PS: I ain't goin ta check my spellin. This is supposed to be fun, not school!

I became a part of the Trainz Community in early 2008 after I purchased the game at Best Buy [R] on clearance for $10, the best 10 bucks I ever spent! Since then I became actively involved in the forums in November and have enjoyed it for the most part. I actually came to this online community from, the Nascar 09 online community, my parents like the Trainz Community because it is safer and people are alot better! I am involved in two projects, one Backyard & Myself are building the NS CN0&TP line and I am building a fictional CSX line.

Like I said in my first post alot of things have already been done. I think the problem could be is that you do have some good ideas for threads, but you seem to bash them out at a rather alarming rate. Maybe you should have a good look at your ideas and make a study of them first. Then you may come across something that has not been covered and this could be your high in the threads . Just a thought, and it may stop a lot of negativity to wards your threads.

Actuall, you just brought up something here, AC. The forums and community are very much like a railroad or model railroad club. Up on the DLS there are some UM routes. These are similar to your N-scale modules. A group of route builders did this a couple of years ago to allow people to interchange sections of precreated routes to make route building easier. Some modules are better than others of course, but they all can be integrated, and not that the track and objects are easily changed, it's even easier to merge in the modules together.

When I had my N-scale layout, I built it in my bedroom It took up a good part of the room, but since I am the only one that goes in my room I didn't care. Unfortunately the PD has set in, and I've since taken down the layout. Trainz has helped to fill the void, but as you say it's not as good as the real models or the real thing.

My model railroad dreams were stomped when my grandma moved in...
She put all hear antiques and junk in our garage so there goes my model railroad room...

because i cant drive a train in my living room wearing just underwear. trainz fixes that.

You might not believe this, but I have witnessed two of my fellow Enginemen driving a locomotive in their underwear.

Okay, it was a bad afternoon, and while walking around their train doing a brake inspection, the heavens opened up. They were both drenched to the skin.

When they got back to the locomotive, the only way to dry out, considering it was very warm, was to strip down and hang their clothing on any place it would hang in the cab.

I, with my mate, were in another locomotive shunting, and witnessed the whole thing. I only regret not having my camera with me. I will remember this for many years to come.

LOL Winterpaw !

Yeeeeeowww...the above thoughts just makes me cringe...must be hot as blue blazes where they are...it's 29F here where I am, BRRRrrrrr !

Why a member of the Community:

Because when I knew nothing about the S-I-M-U-L-A-T-O-R, (it's not just a game, it's REAL), the community helped me to understand the workings of the Trainz program and its files, and helped me get it running.

After a year or so, I have just about figured out every aspect of getting TRS2006 to work great on a Vista OS, and it is fun to try to solve others Trainz or PC problems, as far away as Austrialia and other countries.

Because HO & N Scales(s) is just not enough, and would require a basketball court size train platforn to make the PRR Horseshoue Curve (In The Works) 1920's -from Altoona to Johnstown, The 17 Altoona freight yards, Enola Classification, Pitcairn, Conway-freight yards, the PRR Harrisburg to Altoona, the PRR Johnstown to Pittsburgh, and the BC-Kicking Horse Pass-Spiral Loops Tunnels Field to Lake Louise. The historic Wopsononock RR. And the freelanced Grassflat Snowshoe Gumstump RR, Black Moshannon Yougheny Monongahelia RR (My projects in the works).
