Terrain Modifying

Hi,

Is there a way to adjust the terrain modyfier so that it doesn't lower just in circle shape starting with the middle of it? I would rather be able to use like a straight line or square shape to be able to make it easier to etch out the sides of the track in areas where the track is the higher point and either sides are lower? Not sure if you are going to understand what I am asking so let me know if you need clarification.

Thanks.

I agree,it is really a PIA to have only the middle of the circel go up while the outer parts barely move, why not have a square or rectangle that raises up all the land in it all at once.

As I recall, there's a plateau button that raises or lowers all of the terrain within the circle to the designated elevation. There isn't a square editing possibility though. I sure wish there was.

Yes I use that all the time but its still not very effective, because you need to raise it to a certain height, then you have to use the plateau circle dead center of the last little mound in order for it to take on the height you want rather than some other height value. But if it was a square then you could simply raise a section up,then change to the plataeu button and then it will easily be at the height you truely want it to be at.

What about laying the track you want to be higher, then place a track either side of your main track. Raise the main track using the height button and then lower the side tracks using the height button again. It may take some playing around to get it right and it will probably never be perfect, but worth a try.

Hope this helps.

I've just started to put some topology onto a new route. My first attempt at track laying was on a flat surface. Now I'm trying to put some hills, rivers and viaducts onto it. Don't seem to get the knack of it yet.
I've printed of pages of the manual as suggested and I seem to be getting there... just! Can't seem to get the track to the same level as the viaduct or even get the viaduct to stay level.
Yesterday I was having a problem downloading locos (still have) today its the bloody terrain thats trying me. I'm off work next week. You never know. By friday I might have a Green class 25 pulling some coaches through a cutting, over a viaduct and stopping at a bay platform that has on straight face and the other curved. There again.... Jennifer Aniston might knock on my door and ask me to take her to the pub... :hehe:

On the same note, how in the world does one make a hill without having bumps everywhere? I was trying to make a hill for a road to the side of the track somewhat like where our train station is but had to do sections of -15, -10 and -5's then grade the inbetweens. There has got to be an easier way is there?

Want to make smoother hills? Select a nice fat spline object, like a 'Boulevard' or highway; lay several splines, close to one another, across the face of your hill, out to any length you choose. Wiggle your 'smooth spline' tool over the splines (say "Abra Kadabra!") then delete the splines. You should find a nice smooth(er) hill.
This technique is also great for laying track; lay a road spline along the right-of-way, smooth spline, delete road, lay track. I know you can do the same with the track spline in place, but yourtrack gang will be so much happier to find the roadbed cuts and fills already there when they start work!

If the OP wants to make an Embankment, Search the DLS for Embankment and theres a recent reskin of an Embankment spline which looks pretty good.Simply adjust it to the edges of the track then paint the immediates surroundings in the matching grass colour to make it blend in.Theres also a series of Riverbank splines which are extremely useful for making complicated raised areas such as Cuttings. If you want a straight edge to a texture the easiest way to do it is to use a Spline (such as Asphalt Parking lot) then paint everything behind it with the matching texture - in this case Dock Surface.
