What's going on in this state at the moment saddens me... I can't even bring myself to explain the full situation other than that we are essentially losing all rail services in the state with the exception of tourist lines which will go under seeing as some rely entirely on the mainline existing to do their runs... It's a sad time and a quick google for Tasmanian Rail, Tas Rail, Pacific National... That sort of stuff, will let you know what's going on...

But hey, I found this video online... It'll be a shame if any of these guys have to shut up shop because of an idiotic state government...

(On a side note, I have made Don River Railway which is available on the DLS, other content soon to come once I have saved up enough for 2009)

Woah, I can't believe that any place in the world would even think of doing that... Haven't they thought about the conjestion if everybody's driving a car instead of riding on a train?
That's pretty stupid if you ask me, or anyone sane. If I ran any place in the world I'd fight to keep the rail services running, and make sure all the infrastructure was in good nick.:) Whilst trying to make all train services as fast as possible.;)
Thanks, and good luck to all those Tasmanians who have to miss out on all that trainspotting for the rest of their lives, except for the tourist stuff, don't worry, Trainz is still here!:)

well the track is very bad. just down the road from my place the outer rail is alot thiner then it should be. they where up grading the track late last year and went straight past. plus we dont have any passanger trains running here for meny resons:(

@walrus_v2.0:
It is shameful that rail in Tasmania is dying out and We can only hope that the governments of all the Australian states come to realise the importance of rail services and the need for proper maintenance of infrastructure.
My 2c.

well the govermont took over rail in tasmania in december last year. hope fully things should get better now.:D:(:confused:

some of you might already know that ?

Short Doco on Tas rail?

Hi guys,

I'm looking at doing a short (~10 min) video documentary on the state of Tassie Rail for a uni project.

I haven't decided on a specific focus yet but I'm interested in how things are going since the state government buyback. Have they improved? Why did it turn out to be commercially non-viable in the first place? etc etc.

I don't classify myself as a train buff but hey, everybody likes trains, right? Besides, I think it's a relevant issue to Tasmania.

If anybody has any info or leads (or footage!) please let me know...

Cheers
