SyncToy

I've heard that works very well, but I haven't used it.

Instead I use FileCopy

http://ipmsg.org/tools/fastcopy.html.en

Which has a host of other nifty options like running at a high priority, increasing the memory buffer size, plus all kinds of data copying options such as diff copy, move, and even delete.
It's great for deleting and copying because there is no "Calculating the number of files I'm going to copy. When I'm done, I'll copy your stuff" garbage.

I've just DL'd SynchToy in preparation for installing a new SSD. My question is this:

I have Trainz on a SATA3 HDD (C:\Games\Trainz2009). This is all that is in the C:\Games folder. My SSD will, presumably be E:\. To use SynchToy to copy my entire Trainz2009 install to the SSD, can I set up a file pair as Left (C:\Games) Right(E:\) to install into the root of the SSD, or should I first create a folder? And, indeed, does it actually matter? Or does Trainz have to be on the SSD before I can synch, or can I use it to copy the whole thing instead of dragging and dropping. My intention is to use the SSD only for Trainz and keep the existing installation as backup, synching from the SSD to the SATA once I have it all set up.

I'm feeling my way with this, so all advice gratefully received.

I would copy and paste the Trainz folder onto the SSD.

Then set up synctoy with SSD Trainz on the left and HDD Trainz on the right.

Sounds like good advice, and I thank you for it. At least it keeps things simple, and I know where I am and what I'm doing (not always the case!).

Happy New Year to you and yours.
