Switches drives me crazy!

Dear all,
I have an area of switches which derails the trains what ever I do.
I will be pleased if you could relay to me what you are doing in order to fix such issues.

Thanks very much.

Well there not much to go on here, but take a good look at where the splines connect make sure there connected.
Make sure thire throned in the right way, some switches for some resone they get reversed.
Mabe there a difference in hight from one spline to the other.
If none of this helps then redo the switches.

Morten,

Sometimes no matter what you do, won't fix the problem. It has nothing to do with you or Trainz, it's just that you can't see the error with the junction.

In that case, the best thing to do is to remove the track in that area and relay it so the junction works properly.

In the past I have found that what looks like a good junction sometimes will have broken connections between the track, or the rails twist somehow so the trains will derail when they take the junction.

And sometimes the junction appears to diverge left*, but trainz thinks it diverges right* (usually because it does, but by a very small amount, before it curves left again), and thus you set the switch to right to 'go straight' but it is actually setting it to diverge. Annoying when you're heading with the direction of the switch, fatal when heading against it.

There used to be a switch like this on one of the main lines thru York Yard in the 2010 version of the ECML route, and there are some in SnC iirc.
* And vice versa, of course.

I have one of those back to front junctions on my route, no matter how many times I re-laid the track it would not go away, so I gave up and just named it "Back2Front 1". The AI navigates through it fine and I never forget because the name comes up on the the custom HUD.

I remember that one well in ECML. I ended up fixing it in Surveyor and now run my customized version of the route.

I've made a few of those myself, and yeah ended up taking a siding by mistake a few times instead of staying on the main.
