Summertime Blues

I'd really like to work on my Penn Central route. It needs my time but work and summer activites keep interfering.:'( Anyone else have the summertime route builder's blues? Hey maybe someone could write a song.:hehe:

I have the summertime Gmax blues. Not other activities getting in the way - rather thunder storms. Heap big chicken that I am (lol) I turn my computer off and even disconnect the plug from the wall. Yes - I have a large APC battey backup unit with affords protection but Florida is the second most lightening capitol in the world (someplace in Africa is number 1). Been rumbling and grumbling all week (wee need the rain tho).

On the otherhand I can see where a sweet young thing in an itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polkadot bikini could effect your route.:hehe:

i ain't workin' on my railroad,
got no time to do what i gotta do --
no, i'm ain't workin' on my trainz,
no way to mow and place a rue --

and the onliest water i lay down,
have to do with,
'just do it',
lawn and garden blues.

sethmics,

Well , I've tried and I've tried ,
promise I'll try it once again -
To finish my Penn Central route ,
and upload it , for all my friends -
But the sunshine and the summer ,
and my work , makes it hard to do -
And that sweet girl in my life ,
says ' I've got more important things in mind for you ' -

There ain't no cure for the summertime blues....

Thanks for the replies: "but there ain't no cure for the summertime blues.":hehe:

Come to Florida a suburb of Johannesburg or where I stay as enjoy a good summer lightening storm. My insurance company of course dislikes it.
We are now in winter so we have a break

Hi zuluking:

Do you know exactly where in Africa the lightening capitol of the world is?

Orlando (where Disney World is) seems to be the place in Florida where number 2 is.

You have the right idea unplugging and turning equipment off. I've seen the damage that lightning can do to computer equipment. Way back when I was a hardware technician, the Central Vermont Railway sent in a video terminal to be reparied. We scrapped the mainboard immediately on the spot. The tag read "Hit by lightning". There was a hole burned right through the board where the serial connecter was, and there were burned chips all over the place as they popped from the blast.

Bikinis can get in the way, but we don't see too many of those up here in New England. When we do the ladies wearing them are a bit scary and are more like beached whales!

Horseshoe Curve route vs Yardwork

I FINALLY got the completed finished DEM from the worlds greatest DEM creator, and am working hard on the Horseshoe Curve route...and I am ALSO pulling weeds.. completely tearing up my grass all over the lawn, and am replacing the grass with trees and other schwubbery. It will look like an arboretum when I am done...Just say NO to grass. Mulch the world...I will not be a slave to grass !
Here Sethmc's....maybe this will get you rolling again: Caution: "HOT" !!!

Congratulations.

um... being a little nitpicky here, but you need an idler flatcar between the switcher and the slag cars...

safety issue, and keeps the heat away from the engine.

(of course, if you're simulating an area that doesn't care so much about that stuff, like, China, then no flatcar needed. :D )

Not really. In the 70s the Johnstown Plant of Bethlehem Steel only had a few fatalities. Great improvement over previous eras. Flat cars cost money you know.:hehe:

There is an "Iron Laddle", "Steel Industry Torpedo Car", "MP 15 United States Steel 170", "S2 United States Steel 6" on DLS, perfect for Johnstown USS:cool:Without an idler car...I bet that loco cab got hotter than Austrailia in February ! A nice rusty Mill Gondola would look nice there.

just sayin'... the steel mills I've been picking up from have all been using flat-cars...

and compared to all the rest of the rolling stock they own, they really aren't that expensive at all. they usually aren't in good shape at all... barely more than a frame... certainly not worthy of carrying a load anymore.

So long as the beam, bogeys, and couplers pass inspection.

I've seen one that was one of those old single-stack container cars that are being phased out.
