Sudden Issue With Ultratreez

Vern

Trainz Maverick
I have been using DLS freeware Ultratreez to populate various route projects I'm working on over the last couple of months. Today, when trying to select in Surveyor I found they are virtually all redded out as faulty. Opening CMP confirmed this with initially a bold red ! exclamation mark, which then changed to the red question mark indicating a faulty mesh.

I haven't changed anything within the files or objects, just using as is but I'm totally confounded as to how this happened or how to cure it. Not an option to edit numerous meshes even if I knew what I was doing and if it's a universal thing which suddenly broke them, not going to help anyone else who might eventually use the route and find the content won't display as it's faulty. If it's just something borked on my install then I'm open to suggestions as to a quick fix. Will try a database rebuild tomorrow and see if that helps, but without Ultratreez there's not a huge amount of foliage available (other than the poor quality default Speedtrees) which display correctly in TS12 without showing alpha transparency.

Check the SpeedTree library asset isn't faulty, shouldn't be as it's builtin but stranger things have happened, may need a revert to original. likewise it may be one of the UltraTreez mesh libraries.

I'll try the database rebuild first, then your suggestion Malc and if that doesn't cure it then I'll either delete and re-download the trees (not my preferred option due to the massive file sizes) or try and find the mesh dependencies, delete and re-download those.

I'm still completely stumped (no pun intended) as to why objects I've not tampered with in any way have become corrupted. It's only the trees as the Ultra grasses and terrain textures still show correctly.

Check out Pofig's trees. IMHO the best out there.

I'm aware of those but I try to create my routes with assets off the DLS (or available in official DLC such as the S&C 2009 or Murchison) to make it easier to share them. I have read all the history of why the Pofig trees aren't on the DLS, but until some workaround is arrived at (preferably N3V dropping their right to take over and sell any work put on the DLS) we are stuck with the current situation. In any event, it looks as though this was caused by some sort of core software error, or me not remembering to wait 20 minutes for TAD Daemon to finish running in the background, before shutting down the PC (which amounts to the same thing)!

"wait 20 minutes" Way too long. In TS2012 TAD Daemon should close in less than a minute.
Not necessarily. In my old PC with Trainz on a hard drive and a slower CPU it would take over two minutes to close. Now with an SSD it does close in a few seconds, so it seems to depend on both CPU speed and disk access speed, although I agree 20 minutes does seem very long.
