Does trainz suffer from subsidence ? no matter how often I smooth track on my route when I drive a train along it the track has dips and resembles a roller coaster. any tips will be great :)

I gotta' go look that big wurd' up ... S_U_B_S_I_D_E_N_C_E

The smooth spline tool button in Track (Advanced Tab) will make cuts and fills in terrain.

subsidence [səbˈsaɪdəns ˈsʌbsɪdəns]
n
1. the act or process of subsiding or the condition of having subsided
2. (Earth Sciences / Geological Science) Geology the gradual sinking of landforms to a lower level as a result of earth movements, mining operations, etc.

Noun 1. subsidence - an abatement in intensity or degree (as in the manifestations of a disease); "his cancer is in remission"
remission, remittal
abatement, hiatus, reprieve, respite, suspension - an interruption in the intensity or amount of something
resolution - the subsidence of swelling or other signs of inflammation (especially in a lung)
2. subsidence - a gradual sinking to a lower level
settling, subsiding
sinking - a descent as through liquid (especially through water); "they still talk about the sinking of the Titanic"
3. subsidence - the sudden collapse of something into a hollow beneath it
cave in
collapse - a natural event caused by something suddenly falling down or caving in; "the roof is in danger of collapse"; "the collapse of the old star under its own gravity"

First thing is Main Menu, Options, Surveyor Settings, find "Fixed track vertex height" and click the box to check that ON. That will make the ribbon a straight line (horizontally) between vertexes instead of following the dips and humps in the terrain.

Second thing, click the Advanced button at the bottom of the Tracks menu in surveyor to pull down an extra window with other tools - Get vertex height and Apply vertex height is the easiest way to make all the vertexes the same level.

Tried the vertex height etc and a great hole appeared . this is a trans dem route and the height varies ,could this be a factor ?

This might be a silly question and you might have done it this way in which case I apologise for the question.

Did you click on the Get vertex height button first, then on a track join so that the Apply vertex height had a reference height to work with?

You can adjust landforms in a TransDEM route just the same as any other route. Not a problem! However, if that happens, you may have a very serious subsidence issue!:)

"so that the Apply vertex height had a reference height to work with?" It defaults to 0.00, so if you do apply vertex height without using get vertex height it should just set it to an altitude of zero, AKA mean sea level. Do it on a 5000 foot mountaintop then use the smooth spline tool it would indeed leave a big hole.

Saw the title of this thread and your username derek, and I immediatlely thought "he's still modelling Nottinghamshire coalfield area lines then!"

youre so right David, I'm badly in need of a map extending from Hucknall through Nottingham on to Ratcliffe ,Ive got three pits serving my power station which is about 25 miles out of place, my trans dem stops at Hucknall :(
