Still having trouble with SPORBUST in 2010

Hi;
I have read a lot of the thread on the errors with the SPORBUST locos, but still don't have any of them working in TS2010.
The errors I get most often are that some texture file cannot be loaded for the body.im file.

Are these assets worth my trouble trying to fix them, or should I abandon my efforts?

Thanks

FW

I say they are, what you need are some textures. Copy and paste some from other locos and save to a file on your desktop for easy access when you need them.

It doesn't matter what textures I use? I thought of trying that, but didn't because I thought they would mess up the loco. I'll give it a try. I guess I just need to have the correct name for the texture then.

Thanks

If possible use same or similar, you'll have to be flexible grey=silver, red=light brown. Until you build a large collection of TGA's and bmp's.
If the locos your using say they are faulty after commiting use the revbert to original option.

Thanks for the advice. Now I'll see whether I get the time to work with it.

I was able to get a few of the locos working, and they look really good too! But I am unable to fix most. I get the error:

Error: Texture 'mesh_body/Nose.texture' is missing or could not be loaded for mesh 'mesh_body\mesh_body.im'.

Error: Texture 'mesh_body/specgrey.texture' is missing or could not be loaded for mesh 'mesh_body\mesh_body.im'.

The nose files are there, and appear to be good. I have opened the .tga in Photoshop, and it appears to be a correct size (power of 2) and looks fine. The texture.txt file points to the correct file.

As for the specgrey files, they are not present, but there is a .tga "spgray.tga" file, but no texture file with that name, still, not the file that is being called for.

I was successful in fixing the ones where the "graycoat" or "goldcolor" files were missing. I just did what I was advised to (created them from others), and those assets were fixed.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Texture Problems in Sporbust Locos

I've fixed alot of those kind of errors in Sporbust locos. Those 3 textures are applied in a mesh slot that TS2010 doesn't allow. A check of the mesh file with PEV's Mesh-Text-Viewer utility program shows:

666624 Texture Type: 2 = TEX_SPECULAR
666628 Texture Name Size: 100
666632 Texture Name: C:\Program Files\Auran\TRS2004\World\Custom\trains\Dash 8B40 ATSF #7442\mesh_body\specgrey.texture
667648 Texture Type: 3 = TEX_SHINE
667652 Texture Name Size: 96
667656 Texture Name: C:\Program Files\Auran\TRS2004\World\Custom\trains\Dash 8B40 ATSF #7442\mesh_body\Map3.texture
1027124 Texture Type: 3 = TEX_SHINE
1027128 Texture Name Size: 96
1027132 Texture Name: C:\Program Files\Auran\TRS2004\World\Custom\trains\Dash 8B40 ATSF #7442\mesh_body\Nose.texture

TEX_SPECULAR AND TEX_SHINE are no longer allowed in Trainz. If you run the mesh files thru PEV's PM2IM utility program it will remove these so that it will commit without error.

I've fixed a few, from memory I think I had to put these through pevs pm to lm tool to strip some textures, I know it's already an lm file but it'll still work, however this is from memory but wont hurt to give it a try.

Hi Bob;
For the BNSF ES44AC loco (and others which also have the same error)
Running PM2IM does not work for me. It runs through, does not convert any pm files (there are none), and reports finished. Re-commit reveals the same error: Error:

Texture 'mesh_body/specgrey.texture' is missing or could not be loaded for mesh 'mesh_body\mesh_body.im'.

I have run Assex-X, and it reports the invalid texture, but if I try to remove it from the list, then save the .im file, the file cannot be loaded, and is reported as invalid by Asset-X.

I have been successful in fixing those assets with the missing "graycoat.texture.txt and goldcolor.texture.txt, by simply creating them and pasting into the asset body folder.

Any ideas?

Thanks

FW

FW,
Run PM2IM.exe and set these Options:
Close on Done
Zero Speculars
Strip Textures

The Strip Textures option has to be set to correct the textures in the wrong slot problem that I defined above. Zero Speculars will reduce the shininess that occurs in some .im conversions.

I think a lot of new folks misunderstand the phrase "If you run the mesh files thru PEV's PM2IM utility program it will remove these so that it will commit without error."

Most, including myself, thought that just opening the PM2IM from within CMP "Open With" menu will solve the problem.
What needs to to explained is the IM files have to be opened from Windows Explorer by clicking on them. If you haven't chosen PM2IM as the the default program to open IM/PM files, your OS will ask what program to "Open With." If so follow the dialog to maneuver to the folder where PEV's tools are located, PEVSoft.

Thanks Johnny; I'll give that a try. I do have PM2IM set to zero speculars and to strip textures, but not to close on exit, although I don't think the last setting will make any difference. But what I have not been doing is opening the .im files from Explorer. I have always been doing so through the Open With menu option in CM3.2.

I guess, in Win 7 it wouldn't hurt to run as Admin.

OK. So far, I have been able to fix all of the SPORBUST assets using the method described by JohnnyC1, except the ones that are missing or cannot load the "specgrey.texture" file.

FW

Run the mesh file thru PEV's Mesh-Text-Viewer to see if and/or how it is used. There may be a spelling error.
Since I've fixed most of Sporbust's locos for TS2010, post the kuid number of the loco that has the specgrey problem and I'll check it against mine.

I had this 1 and it confused me for ages. You have a specgrey image but it's not the one wanted. Copy and paste the specgrey file to desktop. Run it through pevs images to tga tool, you will then have the specgrey tga texture it wants. Drop it back into the folder and it's done.

I haven't been able to find a specgrey file. It is missing from all of the SPORBUST assets I have looked at.

IMO, all of this is Auran's fault. They should have spent a little more time on new versions of Trainz so as not to break so much older content. With the huge store of content already out there for TS2004, creating new products (TS2006-2010) should have at least included a conversion utility that would convert old content to the new format. By doing what Auran has been so notoriously doing, breaking old content, they are already slipping the noose onto their neck. I get so frustrated with Trainz and all of the broken but good content that I go over to the RailWorks web site and contemplate purchasing their latest product. I don't really believe that would solve anything, but such emotion precludes reason.

I feel for all of the content creators who have spent countless hours creating great content, and uploading it so that the rest of us can use it for free, to have Auran come along with a new product that has a lot of advantages over the old, but will not support the old content.
I have never seen this in any other software. I can still open a Word document created in Word 2000 on Word 2010. I can still open any jpg file created in Photoshop or any other jpg software, and I can open any MP3 file in any software that is designed to open mp3. Age does not matter.

I'm not giving up. After having seen the quality of the SPORBUST assets, I am motivated to get all of them working in TS2010.
But I may be giving up on Trainz. 2010 was my last purchase, and I am not planning to purchase the new multi-player game or any future games from Auran until they clean up their act.

Perhaps I need to re-install TS2004, and work with the old content there before trying to import it to TS2010. I don't actually have the program discs for TS2004 anymore, but since I still have a valid serial number, I should be able to download a copy and plug in my s/n.

If the errors are warnings/faulty assets, the locomotive will still run in game, it will just cause lag. It it a truck that is faulty? Are there missing dependencies? Those are possible reasons.

I did get a lot of them working using JohnnyC1's help with opening Pm2Im from Explorer, not from CM. But still have some that refuse to be fixed.
The assets were coming into CM3.2 as faulty (with errors, not just warnings).

Do you think it would help if I had TS2004 installed, open the assets in that version (assuming there are no errors), and then work on them there before trying to export to TS2010?

It is there, just squint a bit more, its a texture file not tga or im, that's why I missed it so many times.

Copy and paste ANY .texture file from the asset folder. Rename it to the missing texture and change the line, in notepad in the body of the document, to specgray.tga.
In Infranview, create a new 16 by 16 image and name it to specgray, save to desktop.
Place both files into the asset folder and commit.

Just give it what it asks for. Sometimes unused textures are still included and have no impact other than Auran's error checking. I've repaired dozens of content like this giving a .texture file and small TGA image. It's simple really. Sometimes a .texture is there without a TGA file to match and the other way around. Usually it doesn't affect performance of the asset.

I have seen a lot of assets like this. One or the other is missing. I have yet to do as I've said and it impact performance or appearance of the item.
