"Steam" Trainz

Hi, everybody. Just a quick question. If I download Trainz 2012 from the Steam website, will I have problems downloading anything from the download station?

Not from the DLS, no, but you will have problems with Multiplayer.

The general advice out there is to avoid Trainz on Steam.

Kieran.

From what I've read on these forums, you will also have problems with 'Patching', as the 'Steam' version has
to use patches from 'Steam', this will effect a certain amount of content.

This is especially apparent with TS2010 which has either one or no Trainz patches. That leaves a lot of content undownloadable.

First off ... If you were hankering for a quality Thomas's Cinnamon & Raisen Bagel, why would you go out and buy generic Shoprite english muffin, and try to smoosh raisens, and apply your own powdered cinnamon ... You get what you pay for ... You pay for what you get !

If Trainz is an official product of N2V, why wouldn't you buy direct from the N3V store Sim Central ? Why whould you purposely sidestep the official vrsion, and instead go out and buy a knock off version, from another store (the exception being Jointed Rail, which also sells the official N3V Trainz + a $20.00 Payware Gift from buying from their store).

Same here, no problems using steam version including MP. It was just updated to SP1.

This could be right, note my first words .........
From what I've read on these forums
........ but things may have been sorted since, but at the price you
can buy Trainz from N3v these days, why take the risk on 'Steam' which uses DRM ????

With the Steam version, does the NKP Berkshire, Chinese SS4, and all the rest of the DLC assets such as the PRR Fleet of Modernization, Aerotrain ... etc ... all work just fine ? ? ?

If so ... I am just darn wrong again ... and am installing, and am backing my hind end up to a "self kicking machine":

I am so old school that I refuse to buy a Powerball lottery ticket from a self dispensing machine (as the machine is so cold that I never even get one number ... And I insist that the person at the lottery print out machine, will actually print me out a lucky winning ticket ... lol (besides, she's prettier than the machine, any ol' way).

I don't have all the add-ons you mentioned but the ones I do have work fine. They were purchased from N3V for my non-Steam copy of TS12. The serials were registered at Planet Auran so when the automatic install function was turned on in the Steam version, all my add-ons downloaded and installed without a problem. My Steam copy was bought on sale for just $14.95 a while back.

TS12 build 61297

I have:
Aerotrain
PRR T1
Coronation Scot
BR Class 14
Murchison
S&C

If you buy Trainz from Steam, you must also buy DLC from Steam. That's something which a lot of people get stuck on. :)

Trainz Simulator 12 on Steam is fully updated to Service Pack 1, and has had a new update released recently as well. All updates are released via Steam.

As TS12 now includes 'Service Pack 1', all DLC's are handled by our DLC system. As such, purchasing through our store will allow the DLC to download via Steam (and other versions with SP1).

Regards
