Steam-neglected by Auran?

You search this forum for TS2012 loco list and how many steam locomotives do you see? TWO! A Y6b and 0-6-0 switcher?! That's it! I haven't got TS2012 for this reason. I think that Auran are neglecting there biggest customer base. No-one purchases Trainz to watch a diesel blandly roll along the track. They want Big Boys pulling 200,000 tons of coal through a mountain pass. They want a "Castle" speeding by with a Cornwall-bound express. I'll admit, a few people like diesels but it's a pretty niche Market. (And I do have a soft spot for Deltics!) I know the community make the content but Auran could put more effort in. So Auran, in Trainz TS14, more steam! (rant over)

Most assets from 2009 SP4 and later work in Trainz 12. Besides, most of the content in Trainz is user-created. So why don't you hold your tongue and enjoy what the world of Trainz has to offer?

I know, but most of the best steam locos won't work. PaulzTrainz and Subpar locos only work properly in compatibility mode. Which Auran didn't add in TS2012. And I do enjoy Trainz, it's just TS2012 has some great new features which are not worth it if they are only 2 steam locos.

Why don't you learn how to repair the steam assets so they will work in TS12. It's not rocket science.... There's plenty of info here in the forum and in the Trainz online Wiki.

He has a point there: SubPar's steamers are a pain in the tender trucks to get working right in native mode. Look, I love diesels as much as the next guy, and Tehachipi Pass is awesome, but All the JR tunnel-motors and SD-45s in the world aren't going to make me buy TS12 if my beloved steamers aren't going to work right without a whole-lotta Class-C-style mantainence.

Try searching for 2.8 upwards then.

Try Skipper 1945 for a start, 2.8 upwards all working in TS12. I have 20 of his loco's in TS12 or 21 if you count his NG L&B Lyn and more to come.

A lot of people build stuff in a higher version than they release it, I do, so users of older versions can use them as well, just because it doesn't have a TS12 build number doesn't mean it won't work. Also people are unlikely to make a TS12 version of something they made for TC3, 2009 or 2010 that works perfectly well in TS12.

I have somewhat agree with natanmallard and sawyer..I too have been amazed by the lack of steam engines avalible to TS12..Now I realize the world today is Diesel, Diesel, Diesel..But what about all of us Steam Guys??It Looks like we are little bit short..I also realize you can Download..But why should we as TS12 users always have missing dependices and always have too struggle to have some thing that should have been Builtin..I also have had 2009(no longer used Because I had PC problems) a better chance to have the Locomotives of Choice..Its because the rules were made not to except certain existing locomotive meshes anymore..We always have Tweak something to get it Why??..Has N3V forgotten us Steam Guys..

I am sorry. Didn't you read the part on the box that says you must be a professional programer with at least 5 years experience to have full Trainz funtionality?

:eek::o

Don't despair, steam loco's are being worked on for TS2010 / TS12. See the link below to my thread.

If you want steam, take a look at Trainzones Murchison 2. It is loaded with steam locos that work with no mods in TS012. There are also a large number of locos from previous versions that work with little or no mods to run in TS012.
What is the old saying?
"You can make some of the people happy al the time, but you can't make all the people happy all of the time."
Cheers,

I appreciate that NathanMallard is petitioning N3V for more steam locomotives to be released, complete and working in the next version of Trainz. We all know that previously built steam engines can be beaten into submission for use in 12. It has to be a balancing act for N3V to decide what engines and rolling stock make it into a new release, and for that matter, what era and what liveries. I don't envy them the task.

What utter drivel. I have steam engines coming out of my ears and never touched a cofig file. As your on this forum you do have internet access so get to the DLS and try to open both your eyes.
No steam indeed.

Deano5: That is your opinion..Just because you have it doesn't mean that everybody should get it..You live over the pond and you have more access to steam more than we do..Look at the choices you have(England & Australia)..

One of the first things I did when I started using TS12 was to copy over all of the steam locos from TS2010 including SnC and Murchison 2. I have numerous payware items from Both Paulz Trainz and Gary Price and they all work perfectly in TS12. I have reached the stage where there are not many British 20th century locos that I do not have working in TS12.

Ken: I know there is alot of payware steam..I'm talking about whats builtin to TS12 and the hassles you go through to get freeware locomotives..Things have changed at N3V, the policy of accepting things have changed..Forcing all of the creators to update their material..

I do agree that there is a small number of steam locomotives for trainz and this coming from a guy who does not use steam locomotives... NV3 needs to look into the fact that there is a small number of them and start increasing the number of them for the game...

Just call the rest of us "no-one." I don't want any size boy pulling anything and I want my buildings, including castles to stand still. There are some diesels I like but give me a Thalys, TGV, ICE or a Shinkansen any day.

The nice thing about Trainz is that it can accommodate all sorts of tastes. It even lets you hide or delete any objects you don't want to see. The first thing I did was remove all the steam locos from cluttering my Trains [F77] tab. Do likewise and you too can only see what you want to see.
