(Steam), Do you like Small or Big?

With one exception (VGN 2-10-10-2) - small ones.

Would be interesting to see some complete rosters for major roads and see how the numbers of small, medium, and large locos compared.

Ben

Hows this for small? (Bearing in mind that the loco on the right would normally be considered tiny by standard gauge norms).
The loco is known as "The Flying Bufferbeam", and was designed to fit through a very low tunnel. More info here.

Small - 0-6-0's mainly, like the Fowler 3F. Though I do also like some larger locomotives such as the 'Patriot' and 'Black 5'. I mainly run small locos because I like shunting and running small branch lines, dropping off goods and small jobs like that.

Kieran.

They both have their ups and downs but I would have to say anywhere from a 4-8-4 to a 0-4-0 are my favorites.
Especially this little guy!

My favorites are the LNER J15, B12, J72, E4, D40, C7, C2, A4, A2, and P1.
LBSCR G, Gladstone, D2, C1, K, and A1.
LSWR T9 and A12.
LNWR Precedent, Claughton, Problem
Highland Jones Goods.
GWR 14xx, 57xx, Dukedog, Manor, Dean Goods, County (4-4-0), Castle, Achilles, and 56xx.
LMS Patriot, Princess Royal, and Black 5.
SR King Arthur, U, West Country...

Jesus, I'll just say small to medium.

A1 Peppercorn's are beasts. I also love the SR West Country and Battle of Britain classes, and of course the Duchess (without streamlining). So yeah, I prefer big steam, although I have a soft spot for the Fowler 4F's.

Small to medium tank loco's - Jinty, Pannier, the BR Standard 2MT, 3MT and 4MT variants. Just something about the combination of power but compactness and (assuming the physics are correct in whatever sim you're using) need to be managed so you don't run out of steam, water or coal!

black 5's and BR standards for me lovely engines to work on and maintain un-rebuilt west country's etc can be pushed off a cliff as they are a pain to look after (just try doing a valve and piston exam on one) oh and for personal preference anything GWR :D

i like some not from North America, too. But, you did not have to be harsh about someone else's locale. Just what you like is all that was asked. Even if I do not like looking at some BR stuff, which is not true I like all trains, I would not drive this thread off track and say something rash like you did. Thank you, though, for showing your true feelings. Now we all know more about you.
