Station Loading Issues (TS2009 SP4/TS2010/TS12) - an update

Hi Trainzers,

I am aware that quite a few of you are having problems with AI trains loading at stations, so I thought I'd better post an update on things. (There are other threads on the subject, but this one is started for a specific reason)

Whilst I'm waiting to hear back from N3V on the issue, I have found something very interesting (as has another user)

The problem has a bearing on the game framerate, so basically the lower the framerate, the more likely it is to happen. Framerates below 1 frame per second usually will trigger this problem, although it can happen at any framerate below 5.

In addition to this, it can happen more frequently on busy routes with lots of AI traffic.

I have also found, from the script code, that the crucial functions that do the loading/unloading are not running in their own thread. This means that only one train will be able to load properly at any one time.

I would like to hear from any affected users that haven't already commented previously. I will need to know whether the problem is happening in TS2009 SP4 (build 44653), TS2010, or TS12, as well as affected build versions.

As things stand, the N3V QA team should be looking into this issue at some point soon hopefully, and will hopefully find the reason for the problems.

The problem occurs at framerates well above 5, in fact it occurs even at 30fps. I fully agree that the more work that the computer is doing at the instant when the station loading is triggered, the more likely it will not work correctly. This can be caused by a busy AI route, processing the graphics when there are lots of assets to be processed, speed of approach of the train is too fast (more than 7mph) and other things.

That seems to confirm my findings so far. I've requested an update from Kris Deagle, who's currently handling that issue, and will report back if anything has been done (or Kris may do).

As I stated in the first post, it looks like an inherent problem in the core files, as after some investigation, the functions responsible for the AI station loading/unloading are not threaded.
