SP's Coast Line

Well, I've had this idea in my head for some time now, and have been thinking about taking on modeling SP's Coast Line route from San Fransisco to LA. Era is going to be during WWII, most likely 1942-43. The reason I picked this is because i plan on doing a HO scale model rr layout, initially of the SF area.

Anyway, the route is 470 miles, and with 113 miles of it next to cliffs. What I was thinking of doing is doing it in stages, say SF-Palo Alto, Palo Alto-San Jose, etc. The main focus of the route is going to passenger traffic, specifically the Daylights, and military movements. Accorinding to the book, Daylight Reflections Vol. 1, there were 290 military bases along the Coast Line not including aircraft factorys or naval shipyards. this was more than any other rr.

What I'm asking for is help on this project such as doing any re-skinning or object creation for that matter, the scenery track laying etc.

What I would really appreciate is someone did a DEM of the route.

Oh and I'm using TRS 2010

Thanks

What a coincidence

Hello Vonhammer,

It so happens that I have been modelling the Coast line. I have been busy since June building it anew in 2010. I had track laid from San Jose to Oxnard in TRS06, but when I saw what was possible in 2010 I knew I had to do it again. I've gotten all track in from Paso Robles to Surf and am mostly done with San Jose to Salinas. Period is 1950s.

Fishlipsatwork has posted dem maps covering San Francisco and the route from San Jose to Oxnard. He apparently did not include Oxnard to LA Union. Another Trainzer, Tokkyu?, has posted the Peninsula portion.

PM me if you are interested in cooperating or sharing info.

Bernie

Great minds think alike, anyway i sent you a pm about cooperating.I'm sure that even though i was planing on doing the 1940's, shouldn't to much different as far scenery and track work go.

Anyone know where I can find cars with military loads such as tanks, jeeps, aircraft etc that are from the WW2 era? I've searched the dls and havent been able to find anything decent

I apologize ahead of time for the double post, but, was wondering if anyone knew where I could find information on SP's depots in the SF area?
