Splines jumping around!

You lay down a spline, say a fence to divide a property. Go to work on some other part of your layout, return to the area, and find that one of the end of the spline has jumped to some other area. Sometimes to the far end of the layout.

I think this may be caused by the "undo" command getting confused as I have had this problem right after "undo"ing something.

Has anyone has had this problem with TRS2004?

Tom.

I have learned to avoid the UNDO command as much as possible. It definitely causes problems when working with track in TRS2004 under certain circumstances. After reading about this in several other posts, I simply avoid the UNDO. There may exist a fix, but I am not aware of it.

I also have had strange happenings using the Undo button, but for some strange reason Cntrl-Z appears to work fine. Maybe a different interface? Don't know.

Over the years I have personally posted many times regarding the Undo Button and the answer seems to be (some don't have the trouble many of us suffer) nevertheless DON'T USE the Undo Button. Manually delete as you go !!
There are several theories on why it happens - play safe and heed the above comment.:'(

When you try to Copy + Paste an object which has Builtin track, the track goes crazy. It may be that if you try to copy splines it has the same effect.Avoid use of Undo at all costs.

Me too. The actual undo button causes strange problems, Ctrl-Z works OK. What a pity the Auran people don't patch little problems like that. It must be a very easy bug to squish.

I am all too familiar with this. Most probably you're working on a large route, as this doesn't seem to happen on some of my smaller layouts. They mysteriously relocate to somewhere miles away, and you can't do anything but delete and lay over. Does anyone know if this is going to be fixed in TC3? I'm planning on buying it.

Tlanders, that problem happens to me a lot too. I too now avoid using the undo problem and I've noticed that cutting and pasting also seems to cause that to happen sometimes as well. My advice is to save frequently, take your time in laying out splines and to avoid the undo button.

Nothing's perfect I guess...

I have this happen with fences recently. Not sure that I hit the undo. But I thought it had something to do with my not releasing the spine or the fact that it was a large scenic heavy route and the ai just had to much on its "mind."

I've been hit hard with this problem many a time: Do something wrong. Press undo. Trainz blackscreens and crashes loosing hours of work. My advice is save, save, save. AND NEVER CLICK UNDO

I have to admit though, I do use the UNDO when I am working with textures. As long as I have SAVED my work, and find that I am trying to find-tune the colors of the landscape, I can successfully use the UNDO when the color/texture is just not looking correct in my opinion. I find that I dont have a problem UNDO'ing a texture, and can play with it over and over again until I think I like the look I am seeing. Just a thought. But I will rarely use it when playing with any SPLINE assets such as tracks, roads, fences, and the like. Muipulating colors/textures have not yet caused me a problem. Good luck, and any other negative problems will be put in my memory bank for review.

Interesting manjoe...however, I think most of us are so paranoid of using the undo that we just don't do it no matter what!

As an aside, you could use the erazor texture mesh and erazor program to get rid of the unwanted textures. :)

Thanks Gisa for that feedback. If I am trying to decide between 4 different rock textures, I place them side by side. Then I UNDO them all, and re-select the one I think best fits the area. I use the same technique with grasses, which always look perfect as a small "icon", only to discover that once I have applied it, the area just does not look right.

For me, it is also especially beneficial when trying to "blend in" two or more textures/colors for a "fade-in" type of effect. An example I use is when placing greenish color over rocks to give it a sort of "mossy appearance". I find that the UNDO provides a lot of latitude for experientation, and it is quick.

But NEVER NEVER any splines or tracks!!!!!:hehe:

My pleasure Manjoe! I have never really gotten into texturing so I have a lot to learn in that sense...I'll have to try that out. :) But what if you place a texture near a spline and then do the undo? I will save before I try that but I've had some crazy splines jumping around via undo and I'm quite paranoid of using it...

Once I have saved my surveyor session, I have no problems UNLESS I am working with splines. There are even times when some OBJECTS/ASSETS like a building is difficult to delete. ( I think I read in the forum that you need to click on an attachment point in those cases. I dont understand that part if it is true.) Then I will sometimes do the UNDO to delete that object. No problems. Only with those freaking splines does the UNDO give me unpredictable results!!!!

But I have not had a problem with UNDOing textures around a SAVED spline/track point. Maybe the UNDOs set somewhere in cache(!) until the saved command is issued. I'm a computer illiterate, so what do I know!:hehe: Good luck and have a great day.

Hehe, well then before I delete the texture, I'll simply save beforehand and compare afterwards. :)

AFAIK it is a bug that has to do with splines. Too bad they never fixed it...

I have to strongly agree with that statement. Maybe all items that utilize a spline/track go through the same common software code, that just happens to be faulty. It appears only things like fences, posts, lights, track, etc are affected. I have not tried items such as townhouse splines, tree splines, etc. They probably have the same failure if they use the same block of software code. Oh well........
