Spell Checker

Get over it
How do you activate the spell checker? My wife says I'm the worst speller you knows. When I click on it nothing happens. What do I need in order for it to work? Thanks.

Most programs, like MS-Word and even the box on the the Forum where you compile and edit your posts, will automatically show errors. Wrongly spelled words will often auto correct, but only when the error is obvious to the software and there are no possible alternatives.

Sometimes the erroneous word will have a wiggly red underscored line. Simply click RMB over the underscored word to see the possible options offered and make your selection.

The forum spell checker defaults to US English only. Is there a way to make the spell checker use UK English?

I've found it's the other way round.

On this post I've just entered British, coloured, centre and analyse with no attempt by the Forum software to correct the words.

However, entering US colored, center and analyze all provoke the wrath of the N3V spell checker.

Interesting. I have just discovered that it's possible to load a UK English dictionary and that the spell check is browser specific and not forum specific, my browser is Firefox. I now have a UK English spell checker.

Thanks, one learns something new every day!

...the forum spell-check feature relies on an add-on for your browser.

Shane

As I have just found out and stated! I have always wondered about this with respect to all forums, not just Trainz. The moment of enlightenment is quite gratifying!

In Canada we were taught "proper" English. I can't for the life of me remember spelling "centre" this way. Perhaps this is one of the reasons I found myself heading off to basic training when I was 17.5 years old!

Cheers....Rick
