Speedtrees a Joke, right?

Gimme a break, I expected an army of orcs over the horizon. They sure don't look like real trees.

Yeah, they are such a joke that almost every outdoor 3D game put out in the last five years uses them.

William

My point is those in Trainz don't look like real trees.

Trainz peaked with 2006 with the addition of TrainzTuner.

The deciduous ones in the GB route look like trees. The ones for the US routes look terrible.

Stand corrected.

I went into surveyor to check the many types available. I was not able to "plant" more than maybe about fifteen types.. I couldn't check out all types available. Hoping to see which ones weren't cartoonish.

Is that a problem with Surveyor, a limit on tree types.

The favourites filter may be turned on. Check the hour glass item on top and if favourites filter shows most of the items in surveyor are blocked.

There is a check mark in the options to turn favourites on or off for startup.

I thought you would like that. ;)
If only we could get the ground textures to slowly turn to white every time it snowed.:hehe:

Watch this video to see why it is called "speedtree"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDWhM14ED2g
In this video, I see trees "growing" out of the ground as the train passes. Once fully grown, they disappear and regrow again.

Trees do not "grow" like that as you pass them.

I'll take jankvis and TNM trees over "growing" ones.

I wonder where Walking Tree and Headbanging Tree are.

But on a positive note, there is still to be seen whether layering, the changing season thing and non-tree up-to-date assets are worth purchasing TS2010.

As Spiffy said.

We are still not totally happy with an issue on some ATI Video cards due to a conflict between the latest ATI drivers and SpeedTree,
however we are currently working closely with the SpeedTree Developers to fix this issue and are hoping to have a patch out in a couple of weeks.
We have decided to release now as we have already delayed for a couple of weeks and wish to keep our promise of a Christmas delivery,
and this issue only affects a small percentage of people. As stated above a patch to fix this is our highest priority.

I think it is just people with ATI cards that are having all the trouble. The new drivers for the Nvidia cards actually improve things.
Guess it sucks to be an ATI guy.

I will happily buy TS2010, once it is stable enough.

However this speedtree thing in my opinion looks like crap, and this is putting it lightly. I honestly don't see why we need all this bull in the game. When I do get TS2010 I hope there will be an option to turn the stupid thing off for good.

AS for ATI users I am one of them. This is why I am waiting for TS2010 to become stable for everyone (or most everyone).

Cheers,
Adam

Are you kidding? You think the Speedtree screenshots look like crap? You think the existing non-working trees in TS2009 look better?

Jeez.... :hehe:

I do not use the built in trees, there for I was unaware they did not work. I use JVC and other third party foliage.

Looks like I made the right decision on not getting 2010. I only have a 3.0 gig processor and the minimum is what? 3.4?
