Speed signs

I've created a simple, single track layout. I have no signals and only one turnout. I'm trying to set speed limits on various sections of the layout. I'm using the invisible speed signs. A few of the signs work properly, but most do not. As the train passes each sign I can see where the sign is recognized but the speed does not change. I'm using Trainz 2012. Locomotive: LOCO UP 0-6-0 #4609. Track: Auran TS 2009 Oak. I've tried several different signs. My signs are not too close to each other. The train has plenty of space to clear one sign before passing another.

But without signal, (at least three), the train runs as if it were on a yellow, or at half speed if you like. Try it with signals and see if it works.

The other issue of which you may not be aware is that speed increases are not in effect till the rear of the train passes the sign.

Speed Decrease = Front of train

Speed Increase = Rear of train.

This is in accordance with prototype practice....

I have a single track route with one train going the same direction. Why are not all signals green?

That's good, it would be difficult for one train to go in both directions!
As far as I know the signals never reflect their true state until you approach them.

On thing I find is that no matter where you place a speed sign ... ie: When a 5 mph speed sign is used, the loco starts up and jolts to 13 mph, then settles back down to 5 mph (very unprototypical in a roundhouse stall, when starting up a loco onto a turntable).

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I added signals to the layout and shortened the train. The speed signs are recognized but the train still does not change speed. Is there a different speed sign that needs to be downloaded that may work better?

I used the Schedule At Track Mark Rule in Surveyor Edit Session to add triggers with a Max Speed command to each speed change on the route. Nothing seems to work. Any more suggestions? Help!
