Speed Problems/Restrictions

Get over it
I set the speed limit at 40 mph from point A to point B. At point B there is a station with a limit of 15 mph. The consist will only go 29 mph, all signals show green. When I set the limit at 45 mph at point C the consist will go 33 mph. At 35 mph it goes 25 mph. My power is a 8-40b and a gp60 with 20 cars behind not loaded. Any ideas or suggestions as to what is going on? Thanks.

Are you sure you haven't used speedboards that are set up in kilometers per hour? The 'metric conversion' in trainz is rounded off and kph to mph looks pretty close to what you are getting...

Also check the engine specs, they are in Kilometers not MPH, Trainz above 2009 will not covert to the proper MPH, so if you engine spec speed is set at 30, Trainz sees that at 30MPH, and not 30 KPH.

The maxspeed in the engine config is in metres/second, 17.886 would give 40mph.

lol Dermmy, I knew that I used the correct speed boards BUT I had to back and check. I was correct. Switched locos fron C40-8 YN2 CSX heavy weathering to C40-8 CSX YN3 #7311 and this added about 6 mph to the speeds. Go figure. The other two posts, Bill69 and JohnnyC1, gave me some technical info but I did my taxes today and my brain is tired. I'll check this stuff tomorrow when I'm fresh. Thanks all for replying.

I FOUND THAT WHEN THE SPEED SIGN IS PUT ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE TRACK, IT WILL REGISTER KPH. IF IT'S PUT ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE TRACK ITS MPH. GOOD LUCK

I placed two long straight sections of track side by side. Placed identical locos on these tracks with 55mph speed post on both tracks. Left track with 55mph left post. NO DIFFERENCE. Both locos achived 55mph and held it. I will try a different test later.

An old problem, but is good that someone is going through the same tests. Now, lay the track and put an end of it (track end). Now run one of the locos and go inside. Look at the speed indicator. When you get to about one mile of the speed limitation, see that the speed goes down to that limitation. Sometimes it does this from far. Now put a low limit speed near the end of the track. Have another higher speed signal in the middle of then run and run the loco. In my test, the loco goes down to the lowest speed, even if it has not arrived yet to the range of the higher speed. Very confusing; This problem comes from the times of 04 ! and Auran at the time and now NV3 are ignoring a solution. Perhaps if we put a lot of ink on it, somebody will try to find a solution.

I can't agree with you there ilberez. In TRS2004 the AI did not see a speedboard before arriving at it, now in TS2010 the aAI will see the speedboard at about the same distance as it sees the signals. This brings up a possibliity I have not tried yet, the radius of influence can be changed for a signal, a points lever, a trackmark and a trigger, I wonder if it can be changed for speed boards.
