Special Pack 1

Hi all. Posted a query about SP 1 on another thread, reckoned I shouldn’t hijack it any further, so started this thread. Thanks to PerRock, Ron Smith and John259 for their replies.

I checked as suggested, and found the version on the right hand lower corner of the screen. It said ‘Trainz version 2.5 Build 2761’.

So. Does that mean that I ain’t got SP1? If I haven’t, what benefit would accrue from downloading it?

One major snag is that I’m on (very slow) dial-up, so size is important. Anything bigger than say 750k would be almost impossible.

I have to say that my version of Trainz runs very well to my inexperienced eye. Don’t have crashes after using Undo, (which I use a lot.) So would it be worthwhile to chase SP up? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You don't have SP1. SP1 will take you to Build 3092.
There was a CD available for for the cost of shipping and postage. But I can't find it anymore.
The download from Merscom is 638 MB.

638Mb!! Ouch. Would the good folk at Auran have to CD, I wonder. Might just give them a ring. Thanks for the info. Cheers. Barney

I had the same problem with the download size.

I got it by going to a freinds house with DSL and downloading it to a CD at his house then brought it back to my house and installed.:D It worked I dont care.

Thank you all for your replies. Alas, we are a small community, too small. it seems, to bring broadband in, unless it's wireless, at a rather high price. (Wipes tears, sniffs.) So unable to get friends to download.

But what benefits would I get from installing SP1. What exactly does it do? Does it make things run faster, add more content?

Thanks for your patience. Barney

OldBarney,

As you yourself has stated, "638meg, Ouch", kinda' makes one think if he/she updates, something good is going to happen, wouldn't you think ?

The main thing SP1 did for me was make CMP more stable, as it claimed it would. Supposedly they upgraded the sound, but it improved it for some, others it didn't help, depended on your sound card. As long as you're happy with what you've got, why bother except there'll be some routes you won't be able to run unless you tweak the config. Just my opinion.

To me, it seems alot of trouble to go through for the sake of this service pack 1. I have a major problem with this CMP, because it's too unstable, crashes all too often, and is giving me a big bunch of heartaches right now. So if SP1's going to help, I am willing to backup my folders, uninstall, reinstall, apply SP1...bla bla bla. Which I still don't know how to.

nicky9499

right to back up your content is easy you can copy the content file into another location outside the trainz folder if possible onto another hard drive if possible. once done to install sp1 you need to remove the current version of trainz you have and reinstall it dont open the game once you put it on you then get the SP1 patch and apply it to the game, important step you have to have your anti virus program switched off for the duration otherwise it will effect the instalation. once thats done you can then place your content folder back into the local folder located within the confines of the trainz program. i hope that helps.

if needed email me and i will help you where and as i can.

Cheers

Hello people,

I have TRS2006 build 2773. I'm currently experiencing a cockup so serious that I am pondering over a reinstall. In this case, I might as well upgrade to SP1. Does anybody know where can I get SP1? Preferably a download since I've never really trusted online purchases/international shipping.

Thanks Ghosty.

Worked well. The Auran websites have been slow by nature, I've gotten used to it. SP1 has been installed successfully.

I uninstalled Trainz, reinstalled it, applied the patch so now it is in theory build 3099. There was only one snag, Trainz Map didn't install correctly. Ended up with the pleasant error reporting dialog (assuming MS monitors it at all). I have yet to run TRS2006 since the installation of SP1, so before I jump in again, do I need to do anything else before running TRS for the first time? Should be okay, but I'm just playing safe.

Hoping for quick replies.
Cheers, Nicholas.;)

Yes Ghosty, the game runs fine. :)

I do have a small problem here again (sorry though). I have built a pretty large and fancy route before the reinstall, and I can't seem to find it now. I have put back the local folder which I was instructed to do a backup of before the reinstall. Checked inside TRS, check inside CMP, even tried doing a scan with Trainzmap, no nothing!

Please give me some pointers so I know what to do next.

Back to the original question...

Barney I am in Melbourne (more or less) and would happily send you SP1 on CD via snail mail. If that suits you can email me your address

Andy :)

nicky if you have not added the duplicate content now would be a good time to do it. you may have to confirm a few items. on cmp you go to file and a menu box will appear there will be an option marked import content you start importing all your content and make sure its confirmed. it should work i did the same not that long ago. any trouble let us know and we will see what we can sort out.

Thanks all for your great help. Everything's up and running again, with the exception of my lost Trainzoptions file and everything inside it (:( ). CMP's much more stable and I got back all my routes.

THANKS EVERYONE!

A small note: There's a problem with your sig, Ghosty. Don't mind me, I'm nosey. :hehe:

Nicky

glad to be of help, regarding the sig its more like an advert for the route i am making. if you wish to see progress of the route hop over to the screenshot forum and check out the Australian screenshot thread you will be able to see the work i am doing.

Cheers
