Spam Attacks

I remember back in the PlayStation 2 days when the forum was starting to become spam, the word spam was an emoticon, eg.

*what's with the
spam-family-of-products.ashx
?*

lol, but much smaller, about 70x70 pix

Cheers.

The spam is not aimed at us.
The spam is aimed at the crawlers of search websites like Google and Bing.

The crawlers can read the links.
The more websites they find with links to a set website, the higher that website is ranked in their indexes, so the higher on the list they show up if you search for something that is related to those websites. And some people are Korean and some are interested in casino's... and that is what makes them their money.

They are not (directly) interested in the users of this forum (or the other huge and spam unrelated business community I am team member on). It is all about ranking on search engines.

Wow, I guess we're a really popular forum then! :)

I thought I had nuked this sucked an hour ago.
Oknotsen (wonder what your username means?), I think I also reported sookyu59 the first time I reported, so IF that's the case, I don't know how he/she/them/it may have got to do it again.

There is one in Trainz A New Era + Kickstarter, something about climate change or something and full of clickable links.

No I didn't click any.

Y'know what?

This is just gonna keep happening.

Unless the higher-ups make a system that restricts newbies from posting whatever they want, right outta the gate, then this is going to keep happening.

Honestly, this is the system's fault. There are three options i see:

1. Allow the newbies access to the entire board, but keep their first 10 posts moderated. Any spam or nonsense does not get posted, similar to the how the Suggestion Boxcar is handled.
2. Make a new section of the Forums that only people with less than 5 posts can post in. Have any new members directed here immediately after logging in. After they create a post that shows they're worthy of access to the rest of the board, and the moderators believe they are capable of posting normally, grant them access.

Unless you guys do something permanent about this, it's going to keep happening.

So why not do something permanent about it?!?

All the best,

They are at again. I had to scroll down three pages to find this thread so I could gripe about it.

Time to escalate this to management I suggest!
