SP 4449 Pics

I found these great pictures of Southern Pacific 4449. These are from her service years.

I was so shocked I nearly cried.

I don't know why people like the "streamlining" on this locomotive. Downright ugly in my opinion.
To each his own, I guess.

Never have seen her in actual service years.

News Flash: 4449 is Not Ugly. She is beautiful.

The 4449 is not ugly. She is one beautiful steam locomotive. If you hate the 4449, then you hate Southern Pacific and I for one, don't stand for it. The Daylight is one passenger locomotive from a great passenger train and I would kindly accept an apology. I had a friend who was a conductor on the Daylight and when the railroad or train is insulted, it makes him mad. So you owe me, 4449, Southern Pacific and my friend an apology.

i would love to see the 4449 and the 844 or 3985 run up the cajon pass on bnsf and up tracks again. seeing the 3751 on the cajon pass and tehchapi loop was a sight to see, but that was back in the 90's for me :(

When my dad was up in Oregon a few years ago for work, he stopped by the Portland Roundhouse while 4449 was inside. They were doing a little minor work, and were about to send her off for I think driver repair or something. They were replacing some of the dead bolts on her, some of which were the original Lima ones...

I now own an original deadbolt from 4449.

But still I have yet to see her in person. Im on my way though. I saw up 844, and chased it. So mabie its a better chance I can see 4449, the only running of the 2 GS classes in exsistance.

Hi: Don't forget the stablemate..The beautiful SP&S #700 4-8-4..I like both of these engines..They my favorites..

Holy crap, I was just saying I didn't like the streamlining. Not insulting you, the actual machine itself, or anyone else. Cool down.

Come on, the streamlining on it is very nice! I rather like it! Personally, I never particularly favored the Milwaukee Road's streamlining.

If we are jabing at machines, I could say I hate the style of the NYCs streamlining.

But that would be a lie, well sort of.

The Daylights litle texas cousins, the P6 sunbeams of the T&NO, are bullet like on the nose, but the rest resembles the style of the GS class. And bashing the NYC style would be semi bashing the Sunbeams.

But one I can bash, UK style streamlining.....yikk

-i saw the 4449 a long time ago... im the kid with the old guy on the left!
