Bought myself an iPod for Christmas and have I have now committed my entire cd collection to my PC - some 450 albums. Having done this it is easier for me to find songs with common themes, such as trains.

I won't bore you with the reason why my collection is almost exclusively female artists, all female groups or groups with female lead vocals - but I will bore you with a list of songs about (or referring to) trains by women/female bands.

title;artist;album

train; 4 non-blondes; bigger, better, faster, more!
train song; eliza carthy; angels & cigarettes
tram 21; electrelane; no shouts, no calls
royal station 4/16; melissa etheridge; brave and crazy
train; goldfrapp; black cherry
this train revised; indigo girls; swamp ophelia
midnight train to georgia; indigo girls; 1200 curfews
train time; mollie o'brien; things i gave away
the l&n don't stop here anymore; michelle shocked; short sharp shocked
train song (demise of the caboose); victoria williams; musings of a creek dipper

Interesting when, generally speaking, trains are regarded as 'boy' things.

Anyone know of any others?

Sheena Easton - Morning Train ( nine to five )

Get sick of it after a while. I used to like it as a kid, now that I'm in my 30s I wondered what I got excited about.

The Rock Island Line by Johnny Cash is awesome, Folsom Prison Blues is not about trains but he sings about it rolling round the bend.

Colhad points out that Johnny Cash is not a girl, although someone went and named him Sue once.

Don't forget "My Baby thinks he's a Train",also from Rosanne Cash, one of the most talented female artists, ever. Also "Blue Train" Linda Ronstadt. And,Dolly did a cover of Blackfoots,"Train,Train",one of the greatest rockers of all time.

We've come a long way from "Chattanooga Choo Choo" and "The City of New Orleans." Guess I'm showing my age.:p

Are you asking for trainz songz compozed by girlz? If not,
Natalie Merchantz (10,000 maniacs) "Peace Train"
Joan Baezz "The Night they Drove Old Dixie Down" (originally The Band, Ms. Baezz's version is awful IMHO)
Mick Berg.

Over here in the U.K, we have 'sound of the Underground' by Girls Aloud (Don'ty worry, your'e not missing much with them, although they are quite fit!)

Regards, Phil
