Some Trainz routes based upon real-world railways might not be authored to scale, but that's just ducky anyway.

The US tried to start using the metric system in the 1970s and it was met with great apathy. Attempts to switch over were soon given up, I think.
Yup, I was in the midst of this in grammar school and junior high. We had to practice conversions between the systems and even with my poor math skills I did pretty well with it. Up until a coupole of years ago, I-495 had signs in both miles and kilometers. We have many visitors from Canada here in the summer and it made sense but when the highway exits were renumbered, the kilometer signs were removed.
 
I don't know if I could ever get used to Celsius. I'm used to 100 degrees being summer weather and 30 degrees being below freezing. I'm glad we didn't switch to kilometers and Celsius. But, we use liters for soda and sometimes kilograms on scales.
