Here's some footage of the Pennsylvania Railroad taken in the early 1960s. The footage, for the most part, is taken mostly of the old motor car 4666 and the last run, but also features some other lines and trains around Trenton, Philly, Camden, and the outlying areas.

Fascinating stuff there John. I met the retired editor of the PRR inhouse magazine on a holiday in America back in Washington DC Station and him and his wife chatted with me till they got off at Philadelphia. Two years later when back in NYC for another stay thy invited me down to Philly and stayed with him for 2 years so being a railway fan enjoyed that. He gave me a couple of wee souvenirs with the PRR emblem on them. When I see films of old stock or rail lines and espcially services no longer present it is sad. So good on you putting the link up even if I am 3,000 miles plus away!

That is an awesome memory to have. It's rare meeting someone like that by chance.

I feel the same way when I see the old videos. The old MP54 EMUs pulling those trains were a PRR classic, and so was their McKean Motor Car DMU. Imagine commuting in equipment that was 50 years old or older when that video was taken. The video was filmed when I was about 2 years old and this is what I remember seeing when I was growing up. I have ridden the trains along the Northeast Corridor from Boston to Washington long before the new Acela was placed in service. Back in the mid to late 1970s, Conrail was just forming, and there was still equipment lettered for the Reading, CNJ, Pennsylvania, and New York Central floating around along with that with the Penn Central. For me it was an exciting trip under the old New Haven and PRR catenary which was still powering those freight motors alongside the washboard Silverliner commuter trains.

On the trip back north as the train approached New York City, the old Delaware Lackawanna and Western MUs were still in operation. These had their own distinct look and ran under their own voltage which was different from everything else around them. Today we have the new Amtrak equipment with Septa and NJTransit running rather boring equipment.
