Some info needed re. versions and contentmanager

I just bought 2012 but I had been working tweaking a downloaded route in 2010.

I understand that compatibility mode is no longer available in 2012 so I am am wondering if there is a way to see exactly what is going to work in 2012 without compatibility mode. It does not seem that the icons with the blue dots actually guarantee anything or that some assets are made for 2010 but do not have the blue dot.

Am I mis-understanding all of this? I just want todownload a few things that I might like to use, just box cars andl locos at the moment.

I think you're thinking too hard. ;)

Install the content from your route into TS12. If you have errors, you need to fix it, or find replacements for it.

In most cases, the older content loads without issue, however there will be some that need simple fixes to operate properly such as config files needing typos fixed, obsolete tags removed, etc., or some content needing meshes and shadows.

If you want to take on any content fixing, let us know which items need fixing, and many of us here can help you. There is also something worth mentioning here. At this time there's an ongoing content update process happening. With this many items that were once individually repaired, are now being done by the community, and the content is now up on the DLS. So having said this, what maybe still "broken" on your hard drive, may already be fixed up on the DLS.

If an asset that you have installed has a red exclamation mark icon showing, then it has errors and will not work in TS12 or TS2010 Native mode until the errors are fixed.

If a yellow exclamation mark is showing instead, then the asset does not have errors but does have warnings, which can be ignored unless you find that the asset is not working when you try to use it in Trainz.

ah,I see. Thanks for the quick replies.

I am not having any errors at this time so I guess I am good for now.

I guess then the real question for me is, what exactly is compatiblity mode and should I care about its passing if I never owned anything less than TS2009?

However, I am looking at a few locos from the era and area I am interested in but they clearly state in the description that they are made for TS 2004 and '06. My thought was that those locos would need compatibility mode. Is that wrong?

Some locos built for 2004 work fine, but you'll find that others don't and will need some minor fixes, or in some cases, they just won't work. There's lots of folks here that will help you in your journey.
