I'm having trouble setting up Trainz Driver 2006. I have a Pentium 4, 2.8 GHz with 512mb of Ram running 2002 windows XP SP3 and it's a Dell i need to know what sort of Graphics Card would fit my machine as i'm pretty much a beginner any help would be much appricated Thank You Jason

Hmmm - honestly? Can you do us a favour please, and let us know as much 'technical' information about your PC, as possible, so we can offer informative insight and advice, as currently, its rather limited information - so we're not really sure how best to help you with this problem. Firstly, what 'issues' are you having with the TRS2006?

Thanks, the game takes about 15 mins to load and it is very slow once loaded. I downloaded ActiveX 10 and that is fine. I read that i need a better graphics card like a NVIDIA but i'm unsure which one to get as some people say you need one compatible for a Dell. also once i learn this iwant to upgrade to the 2009 version.. thanks Jason

Hi,

I suspect that the 512 Mb or RAM would be a slowdown.

You should consider at least 1 Gb. One thing you may adjust (with beneficial results) is in the Options:-

Change the "resource memory" setting to (say) 128. This may help.

I'd say your machine is on the low end for Trainz. You could stretch it by compensating on the memory and graphics card go to crucial.com and download their scanner that will give you the memory parts you need. Take the memory to 2.5 gigs, ie drop in two 1 gig memory modules. You need to work out if you have an AGP or PCI express video card, with luck its PCI express, Murphy's law says AGP. If it's AGP then an ATI 3850 is your best bet if its an PCI express you have more options. You need to watch the power supply as well but you should be OK.

The other performance improvement you could get is to upgrade to TC3 then copy in the TRS2006 .ja files, TC3 is slightly more efficent than TRS2006. TRS2009 in native mode is supposed to be better still but on a single core cpu you won't see that much improvement. Don't set the sliders over to the right, if anything set the distance slider slightly to the left.
