Smooth/level track

I am adding tracks to an existing route with uneven terrain.
I am running the get/use height over the track bed then 'smooth spline height' with not very good results.
Should I delete the track and start afresh or is there a better way of doing it, (usually).
Thanks
Rog
on the Pacific Western route.

Rather than smooth spline, another approach is to raise/lower the ground to a height just shy of the track height using plateau. If the track height keeps changing, this can get a little involved.

I'll give that a try, it wouldn't bother me normally but I have a crossover that looks really untidy.

Most RR's are not a smooth grade ... it my go up 0.10%, then down 0.30%, then down 0.10%, then up 0.10%, then up 0.30% ... a subtle roller coaster of slight leaps and dips ... and too a real RR track may be humpty, bumpty, and swervey, crooked, even in turnouts

Mine is therefore typical :) Just an aside, the outer rail on 'Power Station 2' does not accept coal, is there something I have done to cause this? I am feeding the pstation from either side from pits at both ends of the route.

Hi Rog,

Smoothing the ground under the track is a painful process. I've gotten around this by looking for track that has a deep ballast base which fills in the holes underneath. One of the things that helps is setting a specific height of the track that's .20 meters below the current level. You need to edit the spline points for the track and subtract the .20 from the present value. This will sink the track into the ground some so it doesn't float.

Thanks John, I remember trying to fix 'floating track' adding much to the passenger's discomfort :)
I have found 'Power Station 2's second track is a dummy so a re-design has occured to accomodate feeding from both ends.
