Slightly Off Topic - IE10 Problems on Forums

Hello, in the past week my computer did one of its automatic updates brought on by HP. In that update, it updated my version of Internet Explorer to version 10. On discovery of this, I was very upset because I much preferred my previous version (8?). Two problems I am seeing are some of the banners are replaced by advertisements. I'm not positive, but I think it has only affected banners hosted by IMGUR. I was wondering how I would go about fixing that. The second issue that I have is that my "enter" key does not work when trying to go to the next like when I try to compose a post of private message. How would I go about fixing that as well? On other pages, more advertisements than usual have also been appearing. Thanks in advance for any help.

Not sure why a HP update would update your Internet Explorer to IE10. HP update only update HP products. MS update can and will update addon software if you have given it permission to do so.
However, your easiest way to return your computer to pre update status is to do a 'System restore' via the control Panel. Pick a restore point "before" the HP update.

I installed IE10 and also found a problem when the return key was hit. I soon reverted back to IE9 and everything was as it should be.

The windows OS is what does Microsoft updates. By default it's set to download and install updates at 3am each day. If you right click on 'computer' and select 'properties' there will be a remote tab where you can set the schedule.

I did not find an option anywhere to set the schedule. I think what I will do is just revert my IE to an earlier version. I have one problem though; I don't know how! :hehe: How would I do that? Thanks for the help given above too! I would have done a system restore, but I prefer to have the HP updates.

The <Enter> key problem in IE10 can be resolved by clicking the "Compatibility" next to the down arrow in the address bar at the top.

I have Chrome but I prefer IE. They both have their pros and cons though. As for compatibility mode, I have yet another problem. I click the button for it, the page reloads, and then a window pops up that says "[Object error]" and that window keeps popping up regardless of the number of times I hit the OK button or the exit button.

in the control panel you can remove ie 10, it might be under hidden updates, and it will revert back to the previous version

Thanks for all the help everybody! I decided to just go in and revert my IE and normality has been restored. I can now be at peace until the next time my PC pulls something like this. Next time I will know what to do though. Again, thanks!

I'm using IE 10 and have no issues. I've never used anything other than IE over the years and have never had any problems

Better yet, you can set it to manual updates.

I've been getting that issue on several vbulletin style boards recently, as noted the answer is to enable compatibility mode (where have we heard that before!) though you need to do this before you start typing.

I've had the same problem since the update , I resorted to typing what I needed to post on notepad then copying it into the quick reply box .
Just tried the compatability button and the enter key works .

IE10 now comes with a spell checker as standard , though it doesnt seem to work under compatability mode !!

I've changed my forum settings to use the Standard Editor, rather than the Enhanced Interface, which seems to have cured the problem in IE10 for me.

The easiest way to uninstall IE 10 is to open Control Panel, select Programs and Features, choose View Installed Updates, then scroll down to the Microsoft Windows section (it make a minute or two for the entire list to display,) fine the Internet Explorer 10 update, then right click on it and select Uninstall.

Also, to clear up what I said in an earlier post about the 'remote' tab (and to make me feel better) it's actually the 'updates' tab, or something close to that.
