Six Lane

Hi Fellow Surveyors,
Anyone know where I can lay my hands on a six-lane motorway (autobahn / freeway/ highway), three per side, with exit, entry ramps and if possible over/under passes.
There are quite a few available on the DS but they all drive on the wrong side of the road:D .
Serious, I'm looking for left hand drive (UK) with signs and road markings to match.
I have constructed a short stretch, using single lane roads, but find it awkward when it comes to elevated sections and exit/entry ramps.
Tall order I know, any guides, help appreciated.

Alternatively, if one of you highway geniuses, could think of us Brits and tweak your (Wrong Side:D ) roads to left hand drive, a new version, I'm sure it will be extremely welcomed.

Unfortunately, my Gmax skills only extend to buildings.
Cheers
Pete.

I agree heartily! It does seem to be something that we left hand drivers have forgotten about. I would have thought that it would be necessary for any urban layout whether trams or otherwise.

If you are starting a new route in surveyor set your region to "UK" this will allow your traffic to move in the required direction.

Thanks SB,
Yup, I know about regions, but it looks a bit odd when the stop signs and road markings are on the wrong side (No pun intended), or your coming off a motorway to face a 'No Entry' sign pointing in the wrong direction.

Hi Railwayz,
Forgive me my friend, but I didn't realise that the Southern Continent also used the left.
I spent a month in Sydney, but that was in the 60s and like my computer, its pushing my memory a bit :) .

Cheers Both
Pete.

Scorpio48, I think I may be able to help you.

Having seen PaulZMay's work on a urban railway environment where he used modifications to road set I've been using, I did some digging. I posted here looking for help building a dual carriagway based on the mgreen48 road set, even sent him (mgreen48) a PM asking if he could make a spline for me. No response to either, so I did some digging on download station and found some assets that helped.

To make a pavement like the mgreen48 road set which I had been using, I found "AJS Street Kit" texture to match it perfectly as described. With that I was able to make driveways, laneways and, later dual carriagways and motorways that matched the existing road network in appearance.
To draw the regulatory dual carriageway and motorway road lines, I used spline assets, all with names starting with JJS, someone with those initials made splines with road markings, in versions with and without traffic (has NT at the end of the name).

I am primarily using Irish regulatory road markings, with dual carriagway in areas where there will be frequent at grade junctions, and motorway where there will be an unbroken median for a long time.

Here are some pix.

The first picture is of a section of interurban dual carriageway, the second is of a six lane motorway - it's all a continuous road (i.e. in the route, the dual carriagway becomes a motorway and gains an extra lane each way through the main city)
Since it's based on Irish regulatory road markings, you can tell the dual carriagway because, like normal roads, the hard shoulder is marked by a dashed yellow line whereas on the motorway, it's a solid yellow line.

Speaking of signs, my road network would look a lot better with some blue motorway signs. I will definately consider Transportfans signs next week or so when I start working on my region again, but if anyone could make some motorway signs I would be grateful.

In particular I could use an asset based on this sign
268px-Motorway_Ahead_%28IRL%29.PNG

as well as signs other non-directional regulatory signs like these:

If anyone has the Gmax skills to make these, I can promise to put them to good use.

You can do a lot with the AJS street kit and MGreen48's roads. There is also a UK motorway spline by Bloodnok on the DLS. It's intended for TC for multi-lane traffic, but will load into '06. He hasn't done any more than the one spline yet though...

For that road sign you might have a go at re-skinning one of Shoves' road signs. They allow re-skinning without prior permission, so you could upload OK if you want.

More road assets are on my VERY LONG to do list... I'd certainly find a good use for them...

Paul

You're in luck for signs! I've just uploaded these custom skinnable left-hand signs which are now awaiting approval.

Thanks TSF;
I'll definitely look out for these, although I understand there's a bit of a problem with the approval stage at the moment, may be wrong though.
Cheers Mate
Pete.

Scorpio48,

Snipped.

Brilliant! One of the best Motorway designs I seen (no disrespect meant to other creators) was based on a German Autobahn, complete with over/under passes and exit/entry ramps.
My Gmax skills are limited to Non-active buildings, to be truthful, I've never tried anything else. If I could get permission to change a right-hander to left I would certainly give it a go, although I couldn't guarantee success at the moment.

Hi Paul,
Thanks. I have used the street kit by AJS, along with his tracks, junctions Etc.
Although, I have only used the streets around stations and other highly visible (from track point of view) objects, but its given me 'Food for Thought'.
I haven't come across MGreen48's roads, but I will take a look on the DS.
Cheers
Pete

My thanks to all for your prompt responses. It took a little while for me to get back to you, because, like many others I've been having trouble logging on.
Cheers
Pete.

Thanks trasnport fan, you Da Man  I assume I can find this on download station?

Well, now that you mention it, there are some other motorway signs I could use here
http://www.rulesoftheroad.ie/understanding-traffic-signs/motorway-signs.html

I need, the three exit countdown markers, and below that there are 3 "End of Motorway" signs.
I could also use the "Entry to Motorway" sign, but since my route is totally fictional, and the component should in theory be re-useable by anyone doing a Western European style route, that sign doesn't need a motorway number.

Sizewise, the "Entry to Motorway" sign is about 1/3 the size of the "Motorway Ahead" sign, like so:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:IMG_3245w.jpg
The exit countdown markers are about twice the size of the Spanish countdown trackside objects (Señal ... something)

One final note is that the Irish signage I'm linking to is a descendent of UK signage, and a lot of this motorway signage is used in other (European) countries as well. So these assets could be used by anyone making a European style route!

Thanks in advance.
