Simple contents transfer to a new computer!

I was unable to get trs06 to work transfering data using sugestions. Desperate, I did the following:
First, I installed my old BU drive on to the new computer then,
1. install fresh trs06 on C drive of new computer.
2. delete the newly created Auran folder for C drive. (don't uninstall trainz)
3. copy the BU Auran folder from the old BU drive to the new C drive.
4. Run trainz from that folder and it worked! You have your old content.
I don't know why this worked. I don't recall anything giving those above
instructions before. All coments welcome. Thanks to all who helped. This is always a problem it seems, saving your contents. Robert Graves.:D

This will work with any programme. As long as you do the install on the new machine so that all the information is placed in the registry you can delete the programme folder. By placing the old folder in its place the computer registry path has not altered so will still be reconised by your new computer.

So why have I not read this as a way to restore backup data or put Trainz on a new computer or a new drive replacement. When my C drive
died 2 years ago all sorts of things had to be done to get Trainz up on the new drive, a real pain. Robert Graves.

I always have two drives, C for windows and D for all programmes. If C goes down then all programme information is still safe. You need to reformat C install windows and reinstall each programme so C can put all required information back into the registry.
It is not required for the whole programme to be copied over your way as most files are the same. Only files that save information need be copied.

Just looked at your other post and the answers are confusing. TRS06 only needs the local folder backed up. Install 06 as administrator likewise the update and with compatability set for xp. Now delete the local folder and copy the backed up local folder (do not import) into its place. Delete the assets.tdx and assets.bku files for trainz to rebuild.

Or alternatively, back up the assets.tdx/bku with the local folder and copy them back in as well.

This brings up a good point.

I am going to format my HD sometime this week and will be burning the "Local" folder to a DVD along with a few other folders, but I keep seeing suggestions on also saving the assets. tdx/bku files as well.

After searching high and low for the files all I find is the assets.tdx file. if the assets.bku file is in the Auran TRS2006 program I sure can't find it. Yes I have opened each and every folder in the TRS2006 program and the assets.bku file is no where to be found.

Interestingly enough I just checked my Laptop where I also have Trainz installed ant the assets.bku file is in the "Cache" folder, but it sure isn't on this computer.

My question is, what is the assets.bku file and why do some have it and I don't? Is it all that important when doing a fresh install of Trainz and re-installing the "Local" folder in order to make sure all assets from the DLS work properly?

I don't actually know exactly what assets.bku is, but the common consensus is that it is a backup of assets.tdx. SP1 seems to prevent the generation of assets.bku in most cases. As it is a backup, and it can be regenerated by the program, it isn't important. If you really feel that it is necessary to make it, copy assets.tdx and change the extension to .bku

All of the sudden, i remember switching to bootcamp from Parallels Desktop.
when i reinstalled everything, i had all the routes and saved sessions and all of the content i've downloaded.all i had to do was reinstall it. pretty handy...:o
