SIGNAL/POINT CONUNDRUMS

Have a problem with points and signals or vice-versa?.

The setup is a small country station. Double tracked with point to
point crossovers at either end of the station quadrant.
There s a loop running off the main up line, and a feed to a
goods shed and another back shunt type auxiliary nothing too drastic.

Standard two mode signals guard either end of the
up & down line - and a dwarf on one end of the loop 3 in all.
First anomaly was discovered when the North end mainline turnout to the
loop was erratic and seen to be alternating between point settings.
Engines were run from either direction. At first the the signal at the South
end of the up line would only show red. A anomalous point was found in
a larger yard to the North. Which after correcting, the engine proceeded
ahead- but now on the loop line. The problem now was that
the first turnout after the Southern up line signal was now reversing
its original settings made in Surveyor.

The engine approaching from the North fared no better - first with
a point exhibiting the same alternating point behaviour -
The removal of an errant signal surplus to requirements solved
the erratic settings problem. However the Northern down line turnout
that feeds into the up line also re set itself - once the session /
drive was run.
And that s about a far as I've manged to get with sorting this conundrum.

Advise needed please

In Surveyor you can choose a default setting for your switches (points). When you place the lever, look at the bottom middle of the panel. There's a 3-pointed "Y" thing. Click on that and you can set your default point direction.

To keep the AI controlled, you might need to use direction markers or regular trackmarks.

Hope this helps.

Welcome your spot of advise JC but I'm afraid the problem is a bit more
complex than the default settings on the switches. I might see how I go
with 'set junctions' and the drivers in A1 mode, and see how that works.

Good luck. Let us know how things go. These little things drive me crazy too.

The 'Set Junctions' did the trick - well at least for that particular problem
area. 'It's an ill wind that blows no good' as they say.
