I have been using and creating layouts in Trainz since it was an Alpine loop up and around a little valley, and for the life of me, I can't get the correct set of rules to display the firebox coal level in the HUD for Trainz 2010 EE.
In past versions, (and before I switched to building an old-fashioned NG and Early-American Layout from Colorado to Wyoming, using all steam) I recall that there was a way to trigger the coal level to display on in the HUD.
There are A LOT of long, steep grades in these layouts I am working with, and since the game doesn't match any of the real-world specs for max-output (like ratio of water to air in the boiler - it can vary on each engine from as low as 43% to highs near 75%) plus adding in injector amount, cut-off , throttle, blowers and possibly even sanding, I would like to provide the end-users of my layouts with a better HUD that is more "scientific".
Some of the engines I have ran in older versions of trains have had to be over 100% full in the firebox to maintain a good running pressure, while others simply churned out a constant 150psi with everything turned up to the max and "hands-free".
I'm confused. I've googled for hours and poured over the manuals, but it eludes me.
I've even created a neat "warning system with auto-stop" that shows the engineer how much water and coal is left in his tender, and if it goes below a certain point (where he couldn't reach the next stop, for instance) then it triggers a stop and refuel.
Did the firebox load level display go the way of the "optional" diesel fuel consumption on older version of the game?
I really hate having to say, "well, the fire is not very bright in the cab, so I should add a scoop until it sparkles again," or use the 3 spacebar-presses per kilometer traveled method (depending on which engine I am using, weight, grade, the amount varies of course).
I'd appreciate any help sorting out which rules or scripts to call to show that amount of coal in the firebox, if I can with 2010:EE...
The end-point is that I would like to release my layouts with Scenarios and rolling stock complete, plus an in-game reference for which engine needs to be fueled and set up according to the weight and other variables of the climbs.
It really sucks when you are unprepared and stall a Big Boy or a nice UP 9000 on a short 4% grade at the crest of a hill until you build up more pressure. Every engine I've worked so far has some sort of point where it puts out max-power and looses very little pressure, as long as I had the right tweaks. It would be great to have the coal amount added to that datasheet.
Thanks for any ideas guys! I have no idea why I can't find this feature in 2010... I swear I just saw it recently in a scenario I played (but it could have been in 2004 or 2006)!
