Shoo-Fly (Wide Pics)

I just uploaded a single-board 'route' called "BDS Shoo-Fly N-S" (KUID 202442:100482). According to the email I got, it should be available 'soon'. I also got an email stating that quite a bit of the content was not on the DLS. That is absolutely NOT TRUE. Each and every item placed on the route was either White or Yellow (on DLS or built-in).

The route consists of just a line of track running North-South over a small stream. The original bridge over the stream had become unsafe, so the railroad line decided to replace it. In order to do this, they built what is known as a 'shoo-fly'; a temporary detour over a temporary bridge. This is a fairly common practice through the world and here in the States, it is called a shoo-fly.

Let me know if you have any problems with content. I am definitely sure that I did NOT use any third-party content, but with all the items I have it is possible that one or two slipped past me. It is also possible, given the state of the current DLS, that their own checking routines are flawed. I'll know if I start getting requests for clarification.

Nice little scene there Bill. Some suggestions perhaps? You could add some heavy construction equipment like cranes, flat trailers, pilings, steel beams and such; stuff usually associated with building big things like bridges.

Thanks for the suggestion, Nicholas, but my thinking was that since the in-stream footing for any heavy construction equipment was just being built (note the dozer pushing gravel around), that the workers standing around were waiting for all that to arrive. I've never really liked superdetailed routes very much, preferring to add personal touches to those I download over having it all right there in front of me. I guess what I could have done was to add a static flatbed truck on the highway with a crane loaded aboard. Maybe even escorted by a trooper car fore and aft. Or maybe a convoy of trucks holding the prefabricated bridge siderails. Details like that can be added easily.

My intention for creating this little vignette was making it available to 'drop in' to an existing route. It could also be 'merged' with an existing route and copy/pasted to any elevation already existing (given the restrictions of 90-degree rotations).
