Setting up multiple versions

Currently my Trainz TS12 folder is over 150 gigs, I suspect the speedtrees have taken up a fair chunk, but I don't have the S&C content available and to get that in I think I need to go back to TS2010 add in S&C, update S&C then import to TS12.

I have 100 gigs available on the SSD so current thoughts would be install TS2010 on one of the slow drives, add in S&C, update S&C, install TS12 on the SSD, then import the S&C items. I have one or two routes I'd like on the SSD so how would I get the dependencies over to the SSD?

Basically suggestions on the process please. Can I install TS2010 without disabling TS12 first for example?

Thanks John

Hi John,
I've only just returned to Trainz and I bought the anniversary edition. I installed 2012 first then 2010, (as it came with the anniverary package). I cannot specifically select to play 2010 as no icon appeared in the folders but all 2010 stuff is in the 2012 game when i checked it. I think I got an option to install 2010 in 2012 directory and chose yes. Hope this helps, these where new installs, 2012 first then 2010 and you may choose to do it differently, but by doing it this way and choseing yes to that option you will not be able to access 2010 specifically.

Regards Garry

or just say no to that option "do you want 2010 installed in ts12 directly", but i got all assets from 2010 in 2012, which is what you want isnt it?

John - I have both TS2010 and TS12 installed on the same "slow" drive. I had TS2010 installed and then when I got TS12 and I installed it as a stand-alone. I had no issues with the install nor have I had problems running both from the same drive. I would think it would be the same if they are on different drives. While I've never tried to run both TS2010 and TS12 at once, I've had CM open for both with no problems. I transfer content by saving it to a CDP in TS2010 and then importing it into TS12.If there are missing dependencies, I go back to TS2010. choose View Dependencies/View in Main List, high-light them all and save them to a CDP. I them import that into TS12, skipping those that are already installed. Some of the assets/dependences are faulty in TS12, but otherwise the process has worked fine for me.

If you install TS2010 as a stand-alone, you will still be able to import TS2010 into TS12 by copying data.ja, base.ja, and all the .ja files in /builtin/, from TS2010's folder over to TS12's directory. Then launch TS12 and input the serial number for TS2010. Let the database rebuild itself and you're good to go.

Two issues one is S&C, to get the updates in S&C you apparently need to reinstall TS2010 then add in S&C then do the updates before copying or importing the S&C content into TS12. Once I have done the import to TS12 I'll delete TS2010.

The second issue is I have a couple of layouts I'd like to have in TS12 running on the SSD. However I'd like to keep the SSD content down to 120 gigs. Currently its over 150 gigs without S&C etc. so I think that means a second install of TS12, one fast on the SSD and the other slower larger one on the Raptor.

Cheerio John
