You have to apply the brakes before you uncouple and after uncoupling the brakes on the uncoupled cars stay on.

most versions of Trainz if you press 'A' while a consist is stationary it will apply the handbrake and allow you to park on a slope without a loco without rolling away.

Provided it isn't moving too quickly, you can set the handbrake on a decoupled vehicle.

...or the comma key. It will work, too. I always set the handbrake before uncoupling unless I am positive the terrain is perfectly level.

That might be a CAB mode control, because in DCC mode less than and greater than are alternative keys for adjusting your speed.

The " and ' key applies the brakes once the consist has been selected by clicking on it, at least in 04 and 06.

The "A" key works for me in TRS 06.
