Server Maintenance on Weekends

.I've been noticing that thursday and friday, the download helper was only running at 30-40kb per second...and I have an FCT!! With the high-speed internet I've got, I used to get that same speed without an FCT.
That said, I seem to remember zec saying the DLS is hosted by an outside company...which would mean some of the problems that crop up could very well be out of Auran/N3V's control. I'd to see Zec or someone else who works there's opinion on this.

The Download Station and other N3V sites are hosted by The Planet (SoftLayer), which is in Houston,Texas,USA.
This can be checked using tracert or traceroute, which are command line tools built into Windows (traceroute is XP and possibly earlier, tracert is Vista/7)

No problem at all with the DLS and FCT here speed is normal and has been all last week (UK)
More likely network congestion or faults somewhere, not affecting everyone.
People seem to forget that the data passes through various networks and servers between PC and Download site anyone of which could be having a problem, which more than likely is nothing to do with or controllable by the site or the PC accessing it. Other than maybe changing DNS servers on a poor connection which may improve things, it's often out of our control.
It's all too easy to keep blaming the end site when chances are it's not them to blame, which is very likely if not everyone is affected.

True.. true and I agree but it just seems like I have issues on every Saturday during the day CST USA time. During the week it seems pretty good for the most part.
Malc is right. I had no problems either all last week.
If there are issues on the other weekends, and not today it's because the LGM (Little Green Men) visit when no one is around. They pull wires and sit on drive platter as they spin around. They're not there right now, today, because it's St. Patrick's day and they're off having their own celebration!
