How did you obtain your copy of Trainz? If you have a disk, the serial number will be somewhere on the package, but if you chose a downloaded version. your serial number was given to you in the email that acknowleged your purchase.

No, you would be cursing Steam for not being online when you want to use RW. We all have our crosses to bear. At least with Trainz, once it's installed you never have to access the Internet again if you don't want to. Read the RW forums for tales of woe concerning all things Steam before making unfavorable comparisons.
If you ordered it online from the auran site, then presumably you created a planet auran account? If so, login to planet auran here, and go to order history:

Click on the invoice number, and your serial number will be listed towards the bottom.

Yelling at us is not going to get you very much help. The members here are just trying to help you. I've bought all of my editions of Trainz in a box, so I can't be much help on the downloaded version serial number. If you'll be a little patient and a little less rude, then I'm sure that someone will be able to help you.
