Script to bring in consists for a small switching operation

Hi all,

Please forgive me. I am trying to absorb as much information as I can about the surveyor through the manual that came with the 2010 Engineer's Edition, but is there a way that a consist can be delivered from "off map" to a siding on the current session I am building?

I am building a small switching operation and I would like to have wood chips brought in, placed in a siding and then delivered to the factory, and once unloaded, the empties go back to the siding, where they are picked up and replaced with full hopper of wood chips.

Is there a general "how to" any where on this site?

I feel like I am beating my head against a wall here.

Thanks in advance!

Most likely what you're looking for is a portal of some nature. there are a whole multitude of portals on the DLS, with many features available for timetables and such. You'll have to decide yourself which one you want.

There is also the 'unportal' if you don't want to add a portal object to the route, which is basically a trackmark that can be on the session layer, and serves the same purpose.

Once you've decided on a portal/unportal, you can configure it to produce a specific consist (either a copy of a consist on the map, a consist from the consist library, or a consist that you specify in the portal configuration), you would then give the driver of that consist instructions on how to travel to your yard and drop off the wagons at the siding.

You'd probably also want to include either a wait for a time period or the industry triggering a trigger, then collect the empties and drive back to the portal - which should consume the consist when it drives into it.

jointed rail has a rule that I desire mostly that bases on portals on route
EMIT TRAIN NOW works great in 2006 this works as a when you want it trains
and many others basically portal rules work on time schedules and alotta glitches here and theyre on saved routes....
