Screenshot postings

Good evening everyone.

I do not want to sprinkle on anyone parade here, but can anyone explain the relationship between Trainz and the appearance of some of the screenshot threads which are being posted these days?

We’ve had two recent attempts at competitions (one of which was moved to a more appropriate forum) both of which appear to have now fizzled out.

We also have very futuristic shots where I can see no railway connection whatsoever.

One page even included two pictures of Albert Einstein (presumably pondering the Theory of Relevance).

What, to me, is the most disconcerting development is the appearance of 3D graphics which have clearly not been reproduced in any version of Trainz. They contain very sophisticated imagery including mirror-like reflections and shadows which some potential users may think will come with the software, when clearly it does not. I’m all for realism, but only if it has come from Trainz software and all of those brilliant assets produced by the creators.

Does anyone else share my views, or am I just having a bad day?

I got to wondering about that also, Casper. The latest series of shots in that thread does, in fact, have tracks in them. What confuses me is that it appears to be south Florida instead of Mars.

I could give you an opinion if I had a link, unfortunately I have a slow DSL connection and it would take days to browse thru all the screenshot threads. That said, I have noticed many people missing the posting guidelines, for example posting questions or requests in the Freeware Announcements forum or "my puppy had kittens" in General Trainz instead of Trainz Community.

The terrain with track should look OK once it’s been textured are the blue twinklies in the background are eliminated.

I thought it looked like the La Manga area of south east Spain, with Barcelona harbour from a bit further north (minus the Mapfre towers).

I take your point about file size. They are big images and take a lot longer to load than regulation(!) size images.

I still don’t get the Mars bit though.
It could be that it’s an historical thing – in that we may have migrated from Mars, having wrecked that planet, prior to moving to Earth to screw up this one as well. Maybe the Martian rover will discover an old rail network!

Still slightly confused (and still don’t like non-Trainz 3D imagery being posted).
