Controlled Chaos

There is no better place to watch the action at the Dover Springs yard than from the top of the town water tower and no better time than 7:45AM when the action is hot and heavy.

At Platform 1 the South Bound Local meets her North bound cousin on Platform 2. The Mountain steamer is gingerly backing to couple up replacing the EP3 that's dashing around to link up to the North bound. Her sister mountain engine, having dropped the North Bound Local is at the far left backing around to the turntable followed by the T1 that brought in the string of iced down fresh seafood bound for northern tables. That consist will be rolling out once the pair of EF1s complete their run around after dropping the South bound coal consist. At the upper right the another mountain type is moving to link up and take the coal consist onto the non-electric southern section. At Platform 3 the local double A baseball team (The Dover Springs Devils) and their fans are standing by to head out on a special that's been shoehorned in between the local and the coal train.

In a half hour the yard will be deserted except for the string of extra passenger cars the EY-2a is shepherding, the new HH600 servicing the yard coal and diesel stations at the top of the picture, and the two steam engines standing by for their return trips south after their ride on the turntable.

Here's my entry.

More overgrown rubbish.

Zachary,

Regarding next week’s theme, could we please have a definition of “Shortlines”?

Initially I thought it might be what we in the UK call a Branch Line, until I saw this Wikipedia definition, which primarily includes just the USA and Canada.

Which is awesome overgrown rubbish. :Y:

Would it work if I change next week's theme to "Shortlines and branch lines"?

Zachary.
