Scenary Without Tracks for Download?

Dudds

Hi - Apologies as I'm new to this (so apologies if I should be looking somewhere established) but does anyone know whether it's possible to download completed scenery which is just missing tracks and trains?

Thanks.

Hmmm. A route without trains or track. While I do love the Idea, I personaly know of no place where you can find such a map. Sorry

Yes, wishful thinking - I like to think my track-layout skills are better than my scenery skills, you see ... thanks anyway!

MSTS got a lot of requests for "route templates", since the basic extraction procedure was beyond the average player's skills. To make your own route template for TRS2010 (should be similar for other version content managers) find a route you like, select it in content manager, right click and clone it. Once you see the clone (the My Content tab) select it, open in Explorer. Open the config.txt file with notepad, EDIT, FIND "username", change that to whatever you want to call it and save. Other files in the folder;

Dunno what .bmk is, but .gnd is ground, .obj is objects, .trk is track. Delete the .trk file, switch back to content manager, EDIT, COMMIT. When that finishes fire up the game;

And there's your route template with no track. One problem, signals and other track markers are in the .obj file, so if you don't want to go around deleting all the orphaned track objects, delete the .obj file;

And you get what's basically a terrain template, so along with laying track you'll need to add buildings and play Johnny Appleseed with the trees.

I created a route - just a small piece of American suburbia - that was without trains until last week. It's about 1/2 complete, I just want to put in a college or university and a little more residential. But at two baseboards it's not big. Lemme know if you want it.

Try looking for routes by fishlipsatwork or smooz on the DLS. These are blank terrains with lines to show where Railroad, road and rivers go. As far as I recall they are all actual terrains from the USA, but you could use them for just about anywhere for a fictional route. I did just this for my Westhaven Coastal route.

Paul,

I've used his terrain as a basis for my route in some areas. The cities and towns have the names changed to protect the innocent, and I've added on a branch line in one area that never had rail service. This took some work to survey the terrain and look for the best route. After that, with a little bit more grading, the line is very convincing. Check out the pictures of my
