Saving to CDP

I just saved a route I am working on and noticed that the size of the CDP file is 2.86 MB
Previous size saved on 9-11-2008 (haven't been working on this route for a while)was 4.83 MB.
I imported the last saved route in TRS2006 to 2009 and cannot see anything missing.
Does 2009 save in a different way to account for the difference in saved route size ?
Any ides or information will be appreciated.

Hi Ron,

When you save an item to CDP it will only include your content, i.e. not content created by another creator. However if you upload it to the DLS the other content will be downloaded with the route if it is on the DLS. The download helper looks for all the items in the config file when downloading.

That is not quite correct. The original Content Dispatcher from 2004 would only accept your own KUID. CMP and CM2 don't care, you can make a CDP containing all the content on a map. If you want to distribute in this way, you must have approval from ALL the creators whose content you are going to pack.

While this is very useful, it is strange that it was built into CMP in the first place and not fixed in CM2.

I recently packed all the DHR content into one CDP, it ended up at 382mb and contained all the content for which we did have approval.

Ooops,

Hi narrowgauge, I did not know cmp would do that. Although I do have 2006 I usually upload items with 2004's content dispatcher. Sorry.

No need for 'sorry'.

It took me a while to find this and I never saw any reference to this in posts about 2006.

I think it was an error on the part of the original CMP programmer, just one of many.

Points noted and appreciated - what I found was that the same route (all my own) saved in both 2006 and 2009 had very different file sizes - apart from some extra work done since installing 2009 substantially the same file.
Any difference after adding some work I would have thought would be a slight increase in the file size and not a considerable decrease.
Probably is OK (I hope so) but interesting to know the reason !!

Is there a possibility that their compression algorithm handles the data differently and saves the files a bit smaller?

I am thinking along the same lines - the route is quite big and I cannot see anything missing - been a while since I used this route and the brain power isn't what it used to be !!
Thanks for the input.
