Some screenshots from my latest offering to the DLS - the third in a series of layouts based on real routes in the South Australian Railways Peterborough Division in the mid north of the state. All are set in the mid 1960's just before the completion of the transcontinental railway line.
This layout covers the 65km from Peterborough to Gladstone and follows the original route of the line prior to the many diversions introduced by the new line.
Gladstone Yard. Garratt 406 takes an empty ore train back to Broken Hill while an 830 class diesel is on shunting duties with a pair of fuel tankers.
406 with a loaded ore train passes Gladstone Showground on its way to Port Pirie.
An 830 class diesel climbs through one of many curves on the approach to Caltowie. This section was bypassed and abandonded when the new line was completed in 1969.
A freight waits in the yard at Belalie North, one of several stations and freight yards that were bypassed by the new Transcontinental line. This section of the original line was closed and abandoned in 1969.
