Sandy River and Rangley Lakes Railroad Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad

JCitron

Trainzing since 12-2003
Historic footage of the common carrier Maine 2-footer SR&RL RR. The line lasted from 1879 until 1935 when it was ripped for scrap. Some of the rolling stock and track was purchased and used at the famous Edaville Railroad in Carver, Massachusetts initially to haul cranberries then later became a railroad museum with a collection of all kinds of equipment including the Boston and Maine Flying Yankee. When that collection was sold, the narrow-gauge equipment was sold to the Narrow-Gauge Museum Portland, Maine.

I like those railcars at the beginning and near the end. We could use a few more in Trainz!
That lack of power and stock is the only reason I haven't built a Maine 2 foot MRR for Trainz.

Lot's of source material in the Model Railroad world, trackplan wise to work with.

There are several IRL MRR layouts on Youtube, of the SR&RL. Lot's of source material for the iconic buildings and trackside structures as well.

Narrow-Gauge made some rolling stock ages ago, but I haven't used it in years. It would be nice to update his models to current standards if it's okay with him.

What would be needed? Rolling stock other than a loco shouldn't be that hard if we build an underframe such as I use on my UK assets then just add tops.

I was just mentioning the railcars, which did run in some places in the US, but are rarely seen in Trainz. There are a precious couple of them around, but I couldn't even tell you where they come from. I know the Northern Pacific used some between Lewiston and Grangeville, Idaho, so would love one of those for the Camas Prairie route. There are others I am sure.

Not sure if this helps, but I searched NG2 and NG24 for DSL and this came up?

These would have to be North American style under carriages. Some of the parlor cars went west after the railroads were dismantled. This is the same with those that ran on the "Narrow-Gauge" in Boston, although those were 3ft gauge. All that is needed is to change the bogies, I think to convert a 3-footer to a 2-footer. The locomotives though are an issue. The unique doodlebugs are a bit more difficult to build and surely make the SR&RL unique among the Maine 2-foot gauge lines.

The concept for the Maine 2-footers actually originated with people visiting Wales in the late 19th century. The terrain is very similar between the two and the 2-foot gauge fits both the purpose and the terrain.

So talk very nicely to EDH6 for underframes and bogies? He has already built a mesh table for UK underframes and a fair bit of ffestiniog railway rolling stock.

@blueodessey
I'm between computers right now, But if you search SRRL or SR&RL, I believe the Sandy River assets will be listed.

Then there's the Gilpin in Colorado that also don't appear in your list.

I can't begin to spell the European Festinog?? Rwy.
