Meatloaf,
although there is still some work to do here some picts.
Its most fun modelling the whole darn thing with all the challenges not to talk of Auran's kamikaze act on cutting the draw distance what a shame.
It kills my whole enterprise on this route and was going so well with super frps rates in the most dense areas!!!!!
BUT you need a very good machine but the heck its a big route too.
I show the maps and some indications what's where. Not to many picts yet as y'all know TS2009 had his hick ups and textures, trees n (alpha)splines not working so for long I concentrated on things like the route and position key elements.
I tested all the parts and the iportal works perfect in the framework of what the portal at this moment allows to do so satisfied with that for the moment.
Later we can tune that baby.
This is it for now many more nicer shots posiible but the time runs out today..later some more.

regards

Roy

The number of baseboards scares me, see you in about 2-3 years Pinkiepienter.:p

Wish you the best of luck with it, big challenge.:)

The number of baseboards is not the real challenge

the biggest challenge is Auran what unexpected surprises they have in mind with updates.
Does anyone have for me a patch for me to get to 38599???
that was the most(?)stable version before the draw distance blockade from auran happened.
Probably from 38316 to 38599 patch would be fine.
See the baseboards as such is not to bad as it looks its the density on the baseboards that makes things fail or slower.
Time is my friend as no rush is mandatory. The hobby is just going along the track and makes things the way I like or like many times redo little cozy corners to make them look better.
W'll see what else we encounter and still have the emergency brake the I portal to split things more if needed but hate to do that for the moment.
Thanks for your thoughts.
Are you working on any specific route at this moment??

Roy;)

Hi Roy,
The route looks like it is coming along really nicely. Your obviously still enjoying the mammoth task.
Go to this page in the forum and you will be able read what the upgrade to 38599 has to offer (& also to manually download what you are after); - http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=38749 - or just click on this link to directly download. - http://download.ts2009.com/patch/37625_to_38599.exe

what's your opinion on the cutback on draw distance

Mac what is your opinion on this issue draw distance? Just wonder if its only me not using smaller routes and 2 baseboards wide routes....
Well another nice day for some scenerywork. Rain from the typhoons hit is this week big times. Lots of water come roaring from the mountains in our backyard. Scary noice by moments.

Have a good one.

Roy

Roy,
As you are probably well a where the larger and more detailed your layouts is, the more taxing it's going to be on your CPU, GPU & ram... The further out you set your draw distance, the more data you are expecting your system to process at an given time point in time...
I think the secret is to try and find a happy medium/happy balance, where you have a reasonable draw distance, without compromising to much on the quality of the layout detail. Minimising the use of resource hungry things like grasses spines, tree's splines, etc can improve things.
Another thing that I try and avoid is having baseboards that can't been seen from the track, when you have the draw distance max'ed out. I don't see the point.
The other thing you need to try and avoid is the _loody 2gig limit.
You'll know when you hit it !!! I've hit it twice.
First time was when I got bored in 2005, so I added about another 200ks to Razorback Classic. I put atleast another 10 -15 industries and heaps & heaps more detail. (plus plenty of loco's/rolling stock). Eventually I hit the wall (2gig limit).
The second time was when I added just over 500 loco's and rolling stock to Austral Bay 5a. Wham !!! Crashed every time... Removed a few loco's & about 15 - 20 rolling stock and that brought me back under the 2gig limit...
Hope this is of some help...
Cheers, Mac...

Gooood Mornin from a sunny chilly Thailand

:hehe:,
Thank you tony for the kind words and confirmin this is a route more than trainz worthy and probably only for the heavy (hw)users in the near future. Along the track the small computers will get faster(and trainz eat more juice 2). Anyway yesterday I run the Greater Vancouver part on the 38599 version to compare the draw distance and man what a difference with still acceptable fps near downtown. The other backdraw is that certain track like uk bull eats to much trainz vitamines and tends to paly with me and other shortcomings of the 38599 yeh we all know.
Mac i did 2 years ago hit the 2 gig too on purpose and never again came even close but its one to remember.
In 40040 i only use the Yarn splines, dmdrake's houses,uk bull track and some other stuff so no grass or tree splines of sorts from old times to crash my system.
In my humble opinion a route with a limited view distance is to fake and just sitting in the cab which is alreay very limited in view distance is not my thing. Im love the look from far see the mighty landscape and huge train like a little toy meandering thru the mountains. In 3 of the 4 part thru the rockies it works only the Vancouver city vicinity gives me the trouble not even getting the skyline on 3 boards view that is not acceptable.
I have to find a way dunno yet how so concentrate and more happy things liking continue planting scenery along the other track outside Vancouve to get this one ready some day for the first maiden trip.
It will be one of the finest Canadian routes available and very close to prototype although the buildings are just chosen from what's available but I do'nt care about the critics on that issue.
To Auran I would kindly request for an option for heavy users to have a slider for the draw distance further than 5km and a button to unlock the draw distance with less fps of course.
Maybe alltogether Auran its time for a new modeller. You cannot go on forever on the old rigid engine and make one based on new technology.
I would welcome that the most.
TS2009 is very nice except for the blockade of my view thing.

ya'll have a good one.

Roy

Roy, Awesome stuff you have going here, I am duly shocked at the detail as is!
Hate to bug you though, I KNOW I have that 4 track engine shed.. what it's called, I have no clue... A little help in refreshing my memory?
And, just for a curious case, what might be those tanks your using, for a refueling point?
That'd be such a great help to me.
Thanks a bunch.
Sean

That's quite a project and a half you have there pinkie... erm Roy.

It would be disappointing to see such efforts go to waste if oneday your HDD decides to throw in the towl, for the amount of time and effort you have put into this can be painstaking, one could only suggest for good measure is having made several back-ups of the exisiting map to an external drive or re-writable disk if you hadn't already done so.

Best of luck!

thank you Chuff got multiple HDD's

thanks for the concern, it will problably never get finished as the fun is building and tuning and changing and tuning it .....forever. Its jsut fun modelling the entire route.
Most of the part Lake Louise,Banff to Calgary is done but only have to replace the old DMdrake's beautiful trees for new generation trees and winterize them as i did back then. You can see my other thread earlier this year
http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=32628
with the rockies in full winter time. I personally loved to ski on the slopes in trainz its really fun and the view you have is awesome. I build the enitre village and ski slopes lift etc you name it looks real to me. haha. yes its fun as long as Auran keeps things under control
Wonder what the catch in 2010 is but at least they did what me and others talked about why not incorp speedtree and yes they did. thats a good one.
We have to see now what all the rest is bringing.
A new system doubt it. Hope though would be interesting but it will be a overclocked jet engine still supporting the whole darn project.
Have a nice day

Roy

can we connect the AB run?

Thats quite the route Roy, Very good job so far!
Looking forward to seeing it on the DLs.

hi Tony,

thanks keep up the good spirit. Long time ago I run your route very nice indeed but was on 2004. That 's when i started slowly my stuff. So quite a few years right.
Did you plan to overhaul your route and go to 2010??
Wonder what's in the magic box this time. Looks like a big rabbit.

thanks again and till next on the forum

update on draw distance bad spline issue cleanup

testing on the Calgary-Field part of Route Vancouver Calgary and hammered the region with TNM fir lowres trees to replace the winterized DMdrakes splines (here in 2009 the 'bad' splines).
Set the draw distance to 12km for these 3 picts but also tested at 25km and still works. Cab great fps but the draw distance is not what i want. In roaming still acceptable and good fps at many instances.
to be continued:

the picts speak for themselves and makes the draw distance less fatal for me at this moment. Although I have tremendous search and cleanup to do in the greater Vancouver area.

draw distance and compat mode my experience 2 share

Very very impressive  :D -- Question though, how's the frame rate?

Ish

thank you for the encouraging words Ish,

how is live in FL lately?? I lived for a while in Atlanta and a longer term at lake Chickamauga (beautiful area) TN but 9/11 changed my life forever and sold everything and left!

Ok the frame rate.

with draw distance 12km:
in the cabin 45-60 fps or more
free roaming which is my die hard test for my route depending on the viewing angle between 15 and 25!
The 15 fps is sometimes depending on the angle but still ok for me right now.
this is just some rough testing nothing tuned yet.
Maybe today i try to make a little video to show th fps and impact of draw distance.

When I work on my model I go to compat mode for obvious reasons BUT be aware when driving in compat mode the draw distance is restricted at all times.
I do save the model with native mode active and go to driver and see draw distance at 12km or whatever the setting was.

Ish keep up the good work with your night mode project.

regards,

Roy;)

Well I.ve been tinkering with it in "06 for some time and uploaded a newer version about a year ago to the DLS. Once I have TRS2010 I may try to import it but I may just give up on it and start something new. Will see.

Awesome route! I would like to ask(if I may), where you got the trees(beside's TNM's), because I've been looking for more 3d trees, and I think that their on the DLS, I just don't know who created them(JVC maybe?).

ISAAQG sorry for late reply

most is TNm JVC and DMdrake(I altered all his fir etc trees aand winterized them till Auran killed the alpha thing.
