Routes not showing up after I download them from DS in Trainz 2012

I have attempted to download several routes but after the content manger says all the files are downloaded, the routes never show up in the launcher. The lastest route, Clinchfield, did give me a message in the editor that the map was missing. I do not understand because the content manager says all the files were downloaded and nothing is missing. I am using the Steam version of 2012. Could this be the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have a look for dependencies (too lazy to check spelling :o) and does Trainz just show favourites (with a golden star) in the route menu.
And finally have you activated the routes and other stuff in the Content Manager?

Hi scifiman,

On the Routes page, check for a yellow/gold star at the top. If there is one present, click it to show all routes.

If the routes still do not appear, check that they are not open for edit in Content Manager. This can be checked by looking for a spanner icon.

If it says that the map is missing, you will not be able to play that route with your version, as you cannot patch a Steam version.

Thanks for all that replied. Yellow/gold start at the top is not present. In the Content Manager, there are no routes open for edit. However. I am not sure what you mean when tramdu1214 suggested to "activate" the routes in content manager. I have committed them in the editor but I have never before activited a route. How does one activate a route in the content manager. This may be my problem or maybe it is because it is a Steam version. I wonder why you can not update Steam version. I thought that was an advantage of Steam. They usually automatically update when a patch comes out.

Steam cannot update their software to games until the original manufacturer of said programs have done so first. And steam is going to be way behind the power curve as they have to re-write any pathes to their server's format. The reason why steam does not have any updates to Trainz is because though Auran/N3V has many updates, there is still no true patch yet. Steam's hands are tied untill this happens. Many of the Trainzers who have gone the steam route have taken the red a$$ and purchased the straight version (myself included) so as to be up par with most of the Trainz universe. The decision to switch over is yours, but I would recommend going for it. Without the restictions steam currently has on Trainz, the straight version has repaid me the lost money for the double purchase many times over for me already. If you do consider biting the bullet, Auran is having a 50% off storewide sale right now.

This might be a dumb question, but did you download only sessions and not the route? This will cause the routes because there aren't any. Sessions need the routes to work and cannot be used separately.

John

Definately downloaded the routes. Thanks maruffijd for your response. I had a feeling it was the Steam version that maybe giving me some trouble. I will probably end up biting the bullet and buying the straight version from Auron. Its kinda frustrating becomes sometimes it works and the routes show up with no problem and other times nothing. Thanks again for all that responded. I appreciate your time and effort in helping me solve this problem.

scifiman - for the routes saying that the is map missing, you could try rolling back the trainz build number by editing the trainzbuild tag in the config.txt file to whatever build you have (check in CM). This should work as you are only rolling back to an earlier build of TS12 not to TS2010.

Check the dependencies of the route, some depends if faulty will kill the route. Is the route icon showing up red?

John

In addition to checking for the dependencies of the route, you also should check for the dependencies of the dependencies because the DLS does not always pick up on those.

Good advice from dnevans8. Clinchfield is build 3.6, TS12-Steam is build 3.5. You have to roll it back to 3.5, or it won't work. There should be an error message about it.

That did it! Thanks dnevans8. As soon as I changed the route to build 3.5 it showed up and worked perfectly. I can not tell you how much I appreciate this. This has happened to me at on numerous occasions and I just end of deleting the route because I can not get it to work. I hope this fixes other routes I download in the future. Thanks to all of you who responded to my problem. I learned at lot about Trainz in this process.

Happened to me a lot too. One of the reasons I bit the sucker bullet and bought the software a second time during the 50% off sale. But, I do feel like a sucker for having to do so, just to get the support, I feel I'm entitled to :(. At least it was inexpensive :).
