Route Query

Doing my best.
Hi all, just a quick one from me today.
I was browsing the download station looking for a yard to use as the starting point for a route, and stumbled across Muliebuck's Yard Module C. I downloaded this, loaded it up into surveyor, and thought WOW! Just what i was looking for.
However, knowing nothing about yard design or use, i was hoping somebody could enlighten me as to what role of this yard is intended to play. Is it supposed to be a terminus, a branch junction, or what? I was just asking as seriously i intend to use this module in my route, and am slightly confused as to what function it would best serve.

Thanks in advance, Mattm.

P.S. Muliebuck, if you see this, GREAT WORK, mate. Love it! Keep it coming.

ok, possibly my first post was a little confusing. So, i have this yard module downloaded and would like to use it as the starting point of a route, and would like to know how best to utilise this yard.

The route is a fictional NSW Northern branchline, set in the late 60's/early 70's, carrying plenty of freight and passenger traffic.

Hope this helps some, ANYONE, answer my question.

Thank you and sorry for apearing impatient.

I find yards one of the most difficult parts of creating a layout. So much depends on what you want your railway to achieve, and that's sometimes not easy to keep in mind when building. That yard you mention is an excellent example of a yard, but ultimately, you have to decide whether it fits the bill.

It looks as if it's set up as a terminus, and a big one at that. Will that fit into your idea of a branch line. Of course you could start your branch line from that location and just build up into the hills, so to speak.

One problem I've always had with yards, and this is from my personal point of view, is that huge yards with no rolling stock spotted, look a bit naff, and if you populate the yard with heaps of rolling stock, performance takes a bit hit.

I personally prefer a much smaller yard, with quite a few wagons, that involve a bit of shunting to access the wagons you want. That way, you avoid the Ghost Town look of a vast empty yard.

The beauty of Trainz, is that you can always change you mind and add to, or delete from, and see what works. The only limit I have found, is the imagination.

Post some screenies when your layout starts to come together.

Cheers
